BRAHMAVAR, APRIL 12: Vinaykumar Sorake, former MP, has said that

Saturday that local leaders of Brahmavar, including the former
President of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat, B. Bhujanga Shetty, and
B.N. Shankar Poojary, a member of the zilla panchayat, who had
filed their papers to contest the election as rebels, had opted
out of the race. They had agreed to support the candidature of
PramodMadhwaraj, who had been given the Congress ticket to contest
from Brahmavar.
The former MP said the party had held workers' convention at the
gram panchayat and zilla panchayat constituency level. Emphasis
was being given to door-to-door canvassing. The party workers had
been told to propagate the achievements of the
Krishna government
and to highlight the "failures" of the BJP-led-NDA Government, he
said. `People seeking change' Speaking on the occasion, the
Congress candidate for Brahmavar Assembly Constituency, Pramod
Madhwaraj, said the people of the constituency were seeking a
change after a gap of 10 years, and wanted to vote the Congress to
power. He told presspersons that development works had come to a
standstill at Brahmavar. Only a Congress MLA could expedite
development. If elected, he would give importance to construction
of roads and bridges, and take steps to commission more water
projects.
When asked about his mother and former Minister, Manorama
Madhwaraj, contesting as the BJP candidate from the Udupi Lok
Sabha Constituency, Mr. Madhwaraj said he respected his mother.
But politics were about principles. He had never believed in the
principles espoused by the BJP. The cooperative leader, Sarala
Kanchan, and Mark Lewis and Janardhan Tonse, party leaders, were
