Oldest Grany of Barkur is no more

Mrs Christine Andrade , known as Kithar Mai, aged 93 years, M/O Late Fredrick Andrade & Henry Andrade, Kemman, expired on 23rd July 2004 at 10.30 Am .She was residing with her daughter- in-law Foustine Andrade at Mooduhadu village. Her grandson Alwyn Andrade is the owner of Mayur Studio/Video at Bramavar.

Funeral ceremony of Mrs Christine Andrade will be held at 10.00 Am on 24th July at St Peters church, Barkur

GOVT. COLLEGE BARKUR, RECEIVES ROTARY GRANT BY WAY OF BOOKS AND FURNITURE, WORTH 2.05.LAKHS.

The President of Rotary Barkur Mr. Jayaram Shetty handed over Rs.2.05 lakh worth furniture and Library Books to Local Govt. First Grade College, to the College Welfare Association Chairman, local  M.L.A. Mr. Jayaprakash Hegde under matching grant scheme.

The proceeds jointly sponsored by INTC – USA and the local unit deserve appreciation Mr. Hegde expressed his happiness, while accepting the donation.

The Principal Mr. Raja Shekar Hebbar, NJC Principal Mr. Shankar Narayan Aithal, Mr. Stany Pais – former President also present during the function.

Obituary

Maravanthe Zilla Panchayat School Teacher Margaret Eauza D`Almeida (aged 29 years) died while traveling by bus to the school.

Margaret, hailing from Trasi,  was appointed a teacher six years ago and was married to Sunil D`Almeida (Son of Mrs.Gretta and Mr. Lancy D'Almeida, Kachur) of Barkur in 1997.  She lived in Barkur and commuted everyday to the school every at Maravanthe.

On Wedensday morning as usual she was traveling by bus. As the approached Hosadu of Mullikatte, she collapsed and fell off the seat .She was immediatley taken to the nearest Govt hospital, but on way she breathed her last.

Her body has been taken to her home town Barkur. The arrival of her husband Sunil, who is working in the Gulf, is being awaited.

FUNERAL DETAILS: The funeral cortege of the late Margaret Eauza D'Almeida of Kachur, Barkur, will leave residence 'Five Star Villa', Chinnapally, Kachur for the Church of St Peter, Barkur at 3-00 pm on Saturday, July 24. Phone +91 820 2587218

"Pedruchi Chavi" Muscat Special Issue released.

“Pedruchi Chavi”  the ever popular parish bulletin of St. Peter’s Church Barkur achieved its super popularity thanks to the efforts of its current editor Eric Soans. Looking at its layout and content , non resident parishioners literally fell in love with it. Inspired by the the mega success of the December Special Issue  sponsored by the mighty St.Peter’s Association , (Barkur), Mumbai  (SPA)  Barkur parishioners at Muscat came forward to bring out the Muscat Special Issue of Pedruchi Chavi and the same was released on 4th July by the new Parish Priest Rev.Fr. Remegious Aranha.

The issue contains special articles headed by the  Honorary Editor Mr. John F. Gonsalves  and the veteran Mr. P. Archibald Furtado, coordinator of the issue,     along with the regular features, highlights the Barkurians  earning their livelihood at Muscat.  While thanking Barkurians residing at Muscat for bringing out a fabulous issue, Mr. Eric Soans  said the copies will be posted to non resident parishioners at the earliest. He also gave a call to the Barkurians residing at the other places to join their hands in bringing up their own special issues of the bulletin.

The President & Managing Committee of St.Peter’s Association (Barkur) Mumbai invite all Barkurians in and around Mumbai, along with their families  for the feast of St. Peter, their Patron Saint, to be celebrated on Sunday, 4th   July 2004, at St.  Fatima  Church, Vidhyavihar West.

All are cordially invited for the Thanks giving mass at 9.30 A.M. and to a  a get together  thereafter, followed by lunch. Various cultural and entertainment programmes will be the highlights of the day.

ICYM-Barkur  in lime light again!

Mr. Alwyn D’Almeida

ICYM-Barkur has been declared as the 2nd Best Unit in whole of the Mangalore Diocese (the first being Pamboor Unit) and  Mr. Alwyn D’Almeida is the 2nd Best President  for the year 2003-2004 ! 50 Units from the Diocese were in the race and Barkur unit secured 2nd place with 984.86 marks.  Given  below  are the names of the first 10 units :

Pamboor ,Barkur, Kokkada, Siddakatte, Uppinangady, Anegudde, Kirem, Vitla, Hospet, and  Moodubelle.

Patron's Feast Celebrated

Barkur Parish  celebrated the feast of our Patron St.Peter on 29th June. The Mass started at 10 a.m. Rev.Fr.Marcel Saldanha, the new Vicar-Vara of  Kallianpur Varado was the main celebrant.  Rev.Fr.Denis, the new Parish Priest of Brahmavar Church delivered  the sermon.

Handsome and attractive personality, who earlier served in Kanajar Church and Basrur as Parish Priest, instrumental for various religious and social awareness, will surely enjoy his new assignment at this Historical St. Peter’s Church, Barkur.

The retiring Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Sylvester D’Souza, who just celebrated his 75th Birthday  last October  moved to Church of Guardian Angel-Angelore, assisting Rev. Fr. J.B. D’ Souza .

A colourful career of Priestly service being the Assistant Parish Priest, Parish Priest, Vicar-vara of Shirva, Karkal and most importantly two- three great years at St. Peter’s Church Barkur, will now go down to the History pages of Historical Barkur.

Rejuvenated Church fraternity with a fresh look at the spiritual life at grass root level and with success stories like that of ‘Dhyana koota’, the talented choir, ICYM’s Silver Jubilee, construction of Boundary wall, regular publication of Pedruchi chavi…. That too within a short span of time will be remembered  / respected by young and old, living at Barkur or any corner of this world but with Barkur tag attached, say a Big Thank you……!

OBITUARY

Felix D’Almeida (76)-Kachur, H/O.Celestine D’Almeida, F/o. Rosy, Macline, Florine, Cyprian (Saudi Arabia), Patrick (Electrician-Barkur), Michael and Joseph expired today n 24/06/2004) at 7.30 a.m. at City Hospital-Udupi.  Mr.Felix D’Almeida was the present president of Franciscan Order of St. Peter’s Church Barkur. As his son Cyprian is on the way home, the funeral details are withheld.

Obituary

Mr. Micheal Almeida, (Date of Birth : 22/12/1945) H/O Mrs Rosy Almeida, F/o Alwyn, Vyvette, Linet, Renita of Halekody ward expired on 16th   June, 2004 at 5am. Funeral cortege leaves  to St Peter’s Church, Barkur on 17th    June ,at 4.30 pm .
