The Interact Club of Maryknoll High School , recently conducted a
programme on Vanamahotsava and distributed plants to the students
with the help of forest department.
Sr Vineetha, Head Mistress inaugurated the programme. Rtn
Seetharam was the co-ordinator. Apart from the school staff,
Rotary President Rtn. K Jayaram Shetty, Rtn Sathyanaraya Udupa,
Rtn Sudhakar Rao were present during the occasion.

Independence
Day celebrations at Maryknoll Higher Primary School
This year , Independence Day was a great and memorable day for the
staff and students of Mary knoll
Higher Primary School, Barkur. The compound was filled with
students, parents, members of St Peters Association (Barkur)
Mumbai, donors and well-wishers.
At
9.00 Am, after having thanked the Lord for our mother India and
implored God’s blessing on her, the invitees were warmly welcomed
by the Headmistress. Rev Fr. Remegius Aranha the new
correspondent and the president of the celebrations hoisted the
national flag, after which the participants moved to the school
hall for the cultural programme. Cultural programme started by
welcoming the gathering through the welcome dance. The different
items depicting the heroic action of freedom fighters, dances and
songs wishing our Mother India and skits as the parts of
entertainment followed. After the entertainment programme the
guests and donors were called on to the stage. Children from
standard first to seventh were distributed uniforms by the donors
. Children were thrilled to receive the love which will help them
to grow as better citizens of India. Mr. Vincent D’Almeida, Mr.
Stany Pais and Fr Remegius Aranha addressed the gathering and
promised support to the school. After the programme all the
students and the people (around 400) were distributed snacks and
coffee given by Mr. Vincent D’Almeida, Halekody .(USA)
Students and staff and the Management Committee expressed their
sincere thanks for all who helped to build the hearts and minds
of Maryknoll.

Independence
day celebrations at Barkur Church
The 58th Independence day was celebrated at St.
Peter's Church Barkur. Soon after the morning mass Rev. Fr.
Remigious Aranha, Parish Priest hoisted the Tri Colour National
Flag and the Flag Song "Vijayi Vishwa Thiranga Pyara...." was sung
by the group.
Mr. Gerald Gonsalves, Vice President, Parish Council gave the
message and in his message he remembered with deep gratitude the
sacrifices of our freedom fighters for the securing the
independence. Rev Fr Henry Cyprian D'Souza, Fr Wilfred D'Souza
were the guests for the occasion.
Miss Sabitha Mascarenhas, President, ICYM, welcomed the gathering
and Joint Secretary Miss Priya D'Souza proposed vote of thanks.
Secretary Mr. Roshan D'Souza and Mr. Edward D'Souza conducted the
proceedings. Sweets were distributed after the National anthem.
In the evening Cricket Match was conducted at the church grounds.
The team led by Mr. Liston Fernandes, Kachur won the trophy and
the team led by Mr. Roshan Pinto, Bennekudru were the runners.

People's
Forum, Barkur Meets MLA
The members of People's
Forum, Barkur was held on Saturday, 14th August at
Rotary Hall, Barkur. Mr. Jayaprakash Hegde. MLA along with the
Government officials attended the meeting. During the meeting the
problem faced by the local people after the bridge crises was
discussed in length. The PWD engineer Mr. Rajgopal told that Rs.
1.20 crore proposal for the repair of the bridge has already been
submitted and the sanction is awaited. But the local leaders
stressed the need of a new bridge, since the existing bridge which
was constructed during 1968 - 1972 was of lower capacity and it
can not sustain the present day vehicular traffic. So after lot of
deliberations, it was proposed to the Govt., through Mr.
Jayaprakash Hegde that ;
1. Repair the damaged span of
the bridge with in short period with a cost of about 35 lakhs.
2. Construct parallel new bridge with higher capacity. 3.
During the repair stage construct a temporary path way, so that
the students and the general public will not find any difficulty.
Mr. K Jayaprakash Hegde
informed that a final decision will be taken on 21st
August, in a meeting of the departmental heads (regarding bridge
crises) was arranged by him at Brahmavar Bungalow. He extended
invitation to the forum members to attend the meeting and share
the proposals.

Staney Pais, Mrs. Bharathi Kamath (Panchayath President), Dr N S
Kalkur, Mr. B. Seetharam Shetty, Mrs. Eugine Quadras, Mrs. Norine
Lobo, Mr. Jayaram Shetty, Mr. Dolphie D'Lima and other attended
the meeting.
AYA plans to celebrate its
Silver Jubilee
The
Adarsh Youth Association, a youth association
comprising the youngsters of Nagarmutt and Pandeshwar wards,
formed during 1980 is completing 25 years of existence during
2005. A meeting of all the members along with the local leaders
was held recently at Nagarmutt. It was proposed to celebrate
the Silver Jubilee in a unique way. Lot of programmes have been
discussed to be implemented during the year 2004 - 2005, that is
during the Silver Jubilee year and a grand closing ceremony is
planned during May 2005.
It was also decided to take
the help of the founders' and involve them actively in the
celebrations. The role of the founders' was acknowledged by the
present group, who had a vision of the all-round development of
the members.

Installation of INTERACT CLUB

the ceremony was presided over by The President of Rotary Club,
