New Petrol Station At Barkur

Its Official now.  Gone are those days of playing hide and seek for adulterated fuel when one forgot to fill his tank at Brahmavar or Sasthan. The long awaited and much needed Fuel Station started functioning at Barkur now. Located at the Brahmavar-Barkur main road its much of a relief to the motorists.

Farewell to the Boat Ride

At last, the rejoicing (!!?) commuters bid farewell to the everyday boat ride as the newly built bridge is partially opened for the pedestrians. Final touch up and curing works are in progress and according to the authorities, the bridge will be opened to the vehicles on November 26th.

Boat man, Boat man where art thou?

Finally the day at hand when the bridge over  River Sita will be operational. It is the time for celebration for all Barkurians and the people from the surroundings, as stressful life comes to an end. However with the opening of the bridge , a lot of names will be forgotten . I’m speaking about the tirelessly serving Boatmen.

Harish Kunder, Hangarkatta and Umesh Naik, Bengare have been tirelessly serving and making an otherwise impossible travel a bit bearable. Fisherman by trade they have abandoned it for the time being to serve the community. They were so selfless in their job, they did not charge  a penny for small children. They have been doing this for about two years on the request of Jayaprakash Hegde, MLA.

Recently their efforts have been  recognized and were felicitated by the Rotary Club of Barkur.

After the end of this month, Umesh and Harish will be lost in the endless sea of names and faces as they are planning to resume their duty as fishermen. They will be fondly remembered as friendly and helpful people.
