International symposium on effective school leadership at little rock

‘ Leaders must do what they say and say what they do’-US Educationist

leaders must be authentic and in order to be effective leaders, they must do what they say and say what they do, said Dr. Michael Chirichello, Chair, Educational Leadership department, William Paterson University, New Jersy, USA delivering the keynote address at the inaugural function of the “footprints”, an International symposium on ‘Effective Leadership’ organized by Little rock Indian School, Brahmavar in connection with its silver jubilee celebrations.

Dr Chirichello began his speech by connecting some aspects of leadership with children’s literature. while stressing the importance of having colorful dreams, winning with vision and looking at the mirror and reflecting on the way to be better leaders he drew parallels from children’s literature like Applemondo’s Dream and ‘Aesops Fables’ to illustrate his point.just as the blind men who went to see the elephant, many leaders see all aspects of leadership but at the same time they fail to see any of them.

All are leaders and learners at the same time and followers eventually become leaders. Transformational leaders influence and inspire followers, focus on the individual and celebrate success. Leaders want to get thinks in a hurry but professional development cannot be a one day fix, and too many quick starts result in burn-out before the rae finishes.

A good leader knows when to lead and when to follow. By emphasizing the need to look into the mirror and reflect, he said that great leaders like, like artists who paint self –portraits, step back and look inside out and outside in .good leaders should have the power to love than the love to power.

Delivering his presidential address, Dr .M.S.Moodithaya, Director, Justice K.S.Hegde Institute of Management, Nitte, said that India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world and to accelerate its growth the education delivery process of the country needs to be stream lined and it is possible only with strategic leadership style in education.

Mr Claude Boever, director Alert-Lycee, Luxembourg was the chief guest at the function and he read out his felicitation on the occasion. Dr Roy Philip, Managing trustee, Priority One India Educational Foundation which runs the school released a souvenir titled “litrocspective @25” on the occasion.

Nina expressed his hope that all participants would benefit from the symposium and it would help them in their professional development. The co-ordinator of STEP(School Teacher enrichment Project)under the aegis of which the symposium is organized, Mr Harikrishna D proposed a vote of thanks.
