Sad Demise

Joseph J B Carvalho (71), husband of Agnes Carvalho, father of Patricia/Lancy D’Almeida, Premila/Joylan Fernandes and Praveen/Sushma Carvalho passed away on Tuesday September 5.

Funeral cortege leaves residence at Rayara Thota, Kachoor for St Peter's Church Barkur at 3.30 pm on Thursday September 7, followed by funeral mass at 4 pm.

Ganeshothsava at Barkur

Ganesh Chathurthi was celebrated with pomp and gaiety at Barkur and grand Ganesha visarjene was carried out at Kotekeri Barkur. Beautiful Ganesh Idol was kept for public adoration at Shri Rama Mandira.

Athula Yuvaka Sangha also kept a beautiful idol at Rukmini Shedthi National Primary School at Heradi and it was immersed in the Choulikeri.

Severine D'Silva (78) of Hosal-Nagarmatta, Barkur, wife of the late William D'Lima, and mother of Hilda (+ John Andrade), passed away on August 19.

Students Council Inaugurated

"College education is complimentary to the overall development of an individual" said Jayaprakash Hegde, MLA, Brahmavar. He was inaugurating the Students Council for the year 2006-07 in Rukmini Shedthi National Government First Grade College at the Dr. Gabriel Fernandes Auditorium. He added that patience is a virtue that helps for a better future.

Sudhakar Shetty, Patron of the college was the Chief Guest at the occasion and he said that it requires a lot of hard work and the co-operation between the students and teachers for the betterment of the college. Sathish Poojari, Member, Thaluk Panchayat stressed on the necessity of scientific development.

Rajashekara Hebbar, Principal, presided over the function and said that college is a model college because of the help and co-operation from the local people.

Chief Co-Ordinator Raghavendra M. welcomed and Joint Co-Ordinator B.Vinaya Kumara Hegde proposed the vote of thanks. Murulidhara Sooda conducted the proceedings.

Adarsh Dental Clinic Inaugurated

Dr.Manoj D’Lima, BDS, FAGE a young Dental Surgeon from Barkur ventured into opening  a multi speciality dental care unit at Brahmavar. The state of the art clinic equipped with the latest instruments and X-Ray facility was inaugurated by Mrs. Lali A. Mathew and Prof. Mathew C. Ninan, Principal, Little Rock Indian School, Brahmavar on the Independence Day, is located at NH.17 near Aakashwani Circle.

Rev. Fr. Remigeous Aranha, Parish Priest Barkur blessed the clinic and wished for its success. Rev. Fr. Denis Saldanha, Parish Priest, Brahmavar and Orthodontist Dr. Nandish Shetty were the chief guests.

Dr. Manoj D’Lima  is the elder son of Mrs. Irene D’Lima. and  Mr.Dolphy D’Lima former Vice President of the St. Peter’s Church and Barkur Panchayath. Dr. Manoj’s younger brother Malcolm Dheeraj is a budding engineer is pursuing his studies at Nitte Engineering College.

"Kesaru Gadde Ota" at Barkur.

It was a different type of competition all together. And it was fun.  Rotary Club Barkur along with the Pragathi Bandhu Federation of Selp-Help groups of Shri Dharmasthala Gramaabhivriddhi Yojane, Corporation Bank , Heradi and Department of Agriculture, organized a unique Muddy Field  Racing and Neji Competitions  at the Rice fields of  Heradi Charada Naik.

Rotary Asst. Governor Shrinivasa Hegde inaugurated the competitions. Approximately 30 women participated in the Neji and Boys and men competed in murk racing. Rotary President Shrinivasa Shettigar presided over the Prize Distribution ceremony.  Director of the Dhramasthala Gramabhivriddhi Yojane, S. Seetharama Shetty, Project Officer Savitha D'Souza were the chief guests. K.K. Naik of Brahmavar Citizen Forum, Secretary Padmaanabha Kanchan , Jayadeva Kamath, Manager Corporation Bank, Heradi, Sudhakar Rao, Secretary , Rotary,  Barkur, Sathyanarayana Udupa and the president of the federation Prabhavathi J. Naik were present on the occasion.

Hemavathi bagged the first place in Neji and the second place gone to Rathna and Prabhavathi managed to secure the third place. In the muddy field racing, Divakar of Ranaganakeri stood first in the juniors while Krishna got the first place among the seniors.

Nritya vidushi Kum. Sushma Kamath , D/O Y. Mohandas and Anjani Kamath, Barkur and a student of Udupi Radhakrishna Nrithya Nikethana  recently gave a splendid Bharathnatyam performance at Rajangana , Shri Krishna Math, Udupi in ‘Nrityarpana’ series held at the same place. Ramabhat Sajangadde compeered the show.

Bits n Bytes inaugurated at SMS college, Brahmavar.

Bits n Bytes , as the name indicates , the IT club of St. Mary’s Syrian College Brahmavar was inaugurated recently at the college premises.

Kishore Gonsalves, Webmaster of www.barkuronline.com was the chief guest and K. Narayanan, Principal presided over the function. Head of department of the Computer Applications section Manjula Poojarthi and Club Secretary Suhas were present on the stage.

The Club was inaugurated by Kishore Gonsalves and others on the satge by lighting the lamp. Speaking on the occasion K. Narayanan, Principal praised the students for professionally organisning  programme by themselves.

Shridevi welcomed the gathering and Anitha proposed the vote of thanks and Pavitra conducted the proceedings.

Later Kishore Gonsalves gave a presentation on the website www.barkuronline.com and basic designing and hosting  aspects of website.
