Catholic Sabha Meets DC
The day to day commuting has been misery to the people of Barkur,
thanks to the over laden
Ore
trucks. The bridge is being reconstructed at snail’s pace. It
should be a relief if at all its opened for the public by the end
of this year, which is very doubtful , looking at the affairs.
Students are the most affected. It’s a pity watching them
struggling to get foothold on the overcrowded two or three busses
that ply between Barkur and Brahmavar. Some venture into the
dangerous boat ride in the River Sita which is swollen due to
heavy rains. In both ways it’s a no win situation for these
students and many others who are commuting to places beyond Barkur
for their daily bread.
With this backdrop, Catholic Sabha, St.Peter’s Church unit, Barkur
recently approached the D.C. of Udupi District with a request to
arrange frequent Government bus trips between Barkur and Brahmavar
till such a time that the bridge is operational.
The letter describes the day to day struggle that commuters are
facing and requests the DC to organize the bus trips every half an
hour at least from morning
6.30 to 9 am.
Wilfred Roche, President, Catholic Sabha, Barkur Unit, Secretary
Barnes and other office bearers met DC at his office along with
Gerald Gonsalves, Vice President, Parish Council.
The DC responded to the request immediately and promised to take
up the matter in the meeting to be held in the same afternoon with
the RTOs to organize extra bus trips between Brahmavar and Barkur.

waters from the river and sweet water stored upstream of the
bridge will be used for the irrigation of the fields around
Karkada, Pandeshwar, Heradi and Nagermutt.
The vented dam is constructed at a cost of Rs.55 lakhs by the the
