today 23 Jan 2007.
Eliza Picardo is survived by 18 grand children, and four great
grand children. Funeral cortege leaves her residence, Moodahadu
Kudru, Barkur to St Peter's Church , Barkur today Jan 23rd, at
4:00PM.

Annual sports meet Shri Vidyesha Vidyamanya National English
Medium School
The Annual Sports meet of the Shri Vidyesha Vidyamanya National
English medium school, (A wing of Barkur Educational society ®,
Barkur) was held on 5th Jan and
6th Jan 2007.
In the opening ceremony of the Annual sports meet of the high
school section respected guest Mr. Sunil Kumar, Sub Inspector of
police of Bramavar took the guard of honor at the route march of
the athlete’s. High schoolboys and girls carrying the flags of
their houses marched past the dais to the beat of the drums and
bugle.
Oath was administered to the athletes by the sports secretary by
Akilesh Bairy. The lamp was lighted by the president of the
society Shri V. L. Roche. School correspondent Shri Bhojaraj
Shetty welcomed the guest.
Mr. Sunil Kumar addressed the students citing the importance of
duty and discipline. Mr. Shrikanthayya, another chief guest spoke
on the benefits of extra curricular activities. Mr. V.L.Roche,
president encouraged our students and was pleased and appreciated
the arrangements made for the day. Hundreds of Parents, well
wishers, and members of Barkur education society were present.
The athletic events were conducted systematically and smoothly
with the help of teachers and volunteers. Physical education
teacher of the nearby school assisted whole heartedly. Physical
education teacher Mr. Suresh Shetty was the key to the whole
setup who spared no pains to make the event a grand success.
On 6th Jan, 2007, the small kids of the play school,
LKG, UKG, I std, and II std participated in a variety of games
such as running, frog jump, rabbit jump, musical chair, limping
race, passing the ball etc.
To conclude all students enjoyed the sports meet and participated
in the event with a sportive spirit.
Ranga Basadi , from Barkur bags the state award
Ranga Basadi an amateur children drama troupe of National Pre
University College Barkur bagged the prestigious State Award for
the Children’s Drama. The state level drama competition was
organized at Thumkur by Shriranga Havyasi Kalavrinda.
Ranga Basadi is a brain child of Barkur Gururaj Rao, son of Late
Nagesh Rao, the famous head clerk who served at the NPUC Barkur
for many years and was a brilliant actor on his own at the many
plays that were staged in Barkur. B. Gururaj Rao himself works at
the college at present and picked the interested students from the
school and built this team.
Ranga Basadi team organized many workshops for its members before
staging this play named Atike Gombe written by Basuma Kodagu and
directed by Balakrishna Kodavooru won the first place at the state
level.
Apart from this the same drama won the best drama, best story,
best director for Balakrishna Kodavooru, best actor for Ambika
and best supporting actor for Hashitha from the team. It may be
recalled that the same drama won the second place at the Prathibha
Karanji competitions held at
Gulbarga some time back.
Obituary
Alice Fernandes(74), Wife of Late Valerian Fernandes,
Hosala, Barkur. Mother of Late Greta, Gladys, Daphne, Elaine,
Michael, Gregory, Romeo and Bertie passed away on
4th January 2007.

Silver Jubilee Of
Little Rock
The month-long silver jubilee celebrations of
Little Rock Indian School, Brahmavar here came to a grand end on
Sunday December 24.
Delivering the valedictory address, All India Association for
Christian Higher Education (AIACHE) general secretary Mani Jacob
elaborated on the qualities that make a good school and stressed
on the need to develop virtues like discipline and spirituality
among students.
Former vice-chancellor of MAHE Prof B M Hegde presided over the
function. POI managing trustee Dr Roy Philip was present. Students
Amulya K V and Raghunandana Alse Airody compered.
Parish Feast and ICYM 29th Annual Day
The annual parish feast of St.Peter’s Church celebrated on 20th
of December. Most Rev.Dr. Ignatius Paul Pinto, Archbishop
Emeritus, Arch Diocese of
Bangalore
was the main celebrant of the high mass at 10 am along with many
priests from the neighboring parishes. Mrs. Theresa Lobo (Wife of
Late Mr. Benedict D’Souza ) and her children were the Traditional
Pirjenths for this year.
Mrs. Eugine Quadros and her children were crowned as the
Pirjenths for the Parish feast of next year at the end of the
mass.
Fancy fete like stalls were seen doing brisk business in the
church premises selling sweetmeats , Cassettes, CDs , Ice cream,
Toys etc. ICYM Barkur organized various instant winning games and
lotteries and a grand “housie housie”.
ICYM Barkur celebrated its 29th Annual Day in the
evening of Parish Feast day.
Most Rev.Dr. Ignatius Paul Pinto, Archbishop Emeritus, Arch
Diocese of
Bangalore
presided over the function. Ex Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Sylvester
D’Souza, Rev. Fr. Remigeous Aranha, Mr.Dolphy D’Souza, Ex
President ICYM and others were present at the brief stage
programme .
Zhollok, a cultural programme of music, dance and funny
skits was presented later by the members of ICYM , YCS and other
children was enjoyed and appreciated by the public.
