ATM in Barkur?

Syndicate Bank authorities are planning to provide an ATM (Automated Teller Machine) booth for Barkur as announced by Pandukumar Shenoy, Asst. Gen. Manager, Manipal Syndicate Bank.

He was addressing the gathering at the Customers Meet of Barkur branch of Syndicate Bank.

B. Shantharama Shetty, President, Barkur Panchayath, Dinakar Tholar, Principal, National ITI , Barkur were the chief guests of the meet.

Retired teacher Kamala Bai and Office Beareres of the Kamadhenu Association were felicitated on behalf of the Bank.

Sudhakar Rao and Venkataramana Bhandarkar spoke on behalf of customers.

Barkur branch manager Umesh Shenoy welcomed the gathering and N. R. Shetty proposed the vote of thanks. Ramachandra Kamath conducted the proceedings.

James Mendonca, (80) Barkur (Kachur), Husband of Rosy Mendonca  . Father of Gladys, Joachim, Olga, Arthur, Felix Mervin and Tina. Passed away on 12th  Feb.2007 at Barkur. Funeral cortage leaves residence on 13th Feb at 4 pm to St Peters church, Barkur.

7th Makkala Shaithya Sammelana

A very successful Childrens’  Literary Convention was held at Suvarna Karnataka Sahithya Vedike at National Pre University College Barkur on 11th Feb. 2007.

Makkala Sahithya Sammelana was organized for the seventh consecutive year by Swami Vivekananda Samskrithika Kendra, Barkur in association with the Shanthivana Trust ®, Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala, Shri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Belgaum and Mangalore.

Kumari Swathi Shetty studying in 9th standard in Shri Vani High School, Rajathadri, Nadoor presided over the convention.

Well known writer, poet Ananthakrishna Payyoor inaugurated the convention by lighting the lamps and delivered inaugural address. Shrinivasa Shettigar, Vice President of the Swami Vivekananda Samskrithika Kendra welcomed the gathering. Vasantha Shetty, Block Educational Officer, Brahmavar Zone released two volumes of collection of poetry by high school children at this occasion. Nithyananda Padre, Asst. Editor of Udayavani Daily conveyed his good wishes to all the participants of the convention.

First session of the convention was the poetry recital by the participants was presided over by Kumari Pavithra Shettigar , 9th Standard student from Vidyesha Vidyamanya English Medium High School, Heradi, Barkur and was moderated by Savitha  Bhat, Advaayi, a  poetess from Bantwal Thaluk. About 20 students from different high schools presented their poems.

The poetry recital session was followed by a interactive talk by Prakash Mooditthya , Head Master, Government High School, Sullia. He took up the subject of ‘Concentration and Creativity in Literature’ which kept the participants asking for more for his lively and vibrant narrative.

The state award winning stage play Atike Gombe by the amateur drama troup Ranga Basadi of NPUC Barkur, managed by Gururaj Rao Barkur was presented at the convention after the sumptuous meal in the afternoon.  All the artists of the play were presented with memento and medal by Kishore Gonsalves.  Basuma Kodagu, Writer of the play and Balakrishna Kodavooru, director and Kishore Gonsalves of www.barkuronline.com were felicitated by the Swami Vivekananda Samskrithika Kendra. Ramabhat Sajangadde did the honors on behalf of SVSK.

In the final session of the convention N. Jayaram Shetty, Asst. Professor of Justice K.S. Institute of Management, Nitte and a former student of NPUC delivered a talk on ‘Writing Techniques’ which was appreciated by the participants.

Kumari Swathi Shetty, President of the Convention delivered the Presidential address at the valedictory function held in the evening. Rajashekhar Hebbar, Principal, Rukmini Shedthi Memorial National First Grade College, Barkur distributed the certificates to the participants and spoke on the occasion. Dr. H.V. Narasimha Moorthi, Retired Professor of Bhandarkar’s College, Kundapur delivered the valedictory address. Manjunath Sherigar, President of the Dakshina Kannada Jilla Sahithya Sangama and Prabhavathi Kedlaya were also present on the stage.

Ashok Poojari of   Swami Vivekananda Samskrithika Kendra proposed the vote of thanks. The whole day’s affair was aptly conducted by Kumari Sangeetha of NPUC, Kumari Harshitha Joshi of Mary knoll High School, Barkur and Kumari Ashwini Udupa of Vidyesha Vidyamanaya National English Medium High School, Barkur.

College Day of NPUC Barkur

“The students from rural area should develop their language skills in nglish and Hindi and learn computers to compete the job market” said M.V. Kamath, a columnist in Udayavani and also the president of Prasar Bharathi. He was speaking on the occasion of College Anniversary Day celebrated in association with the Former Students Association at National Pre University College in Barkur.

“There is so much poverty in the world that some people cant afford to spend Rs.9 per day. So the present youth should take up the challenge of creating wealth by developing self employment. Developing self respect  and self help systems will create better citizens” he added.

V.L. Roche, President of the Barkur Vidyabhivardhini Sangha, presided over the function. Dr. B. M. Somayaji, Secretary, Barkur Vidyabhivardhini Sangha, K. Jayarama Shetty, President, Former Students Association were the chief guests. B. Seetharama Shetty, Correspondent distributed the prizes. Y. Mohan Rao, Raghuram Bhat, K. Ramadevi and B. Krishna Acharya  who are retired from the service were felicitated by K.M. Udupa, Managing Director, Bharathiya Vikas Trust, on behalf of Former Students Association.

K.A. Krishnamoorthi Bhat, Principal introduced the guests and welcomed the gathering. Ramabhat Sajangadde compeered the event and proposed vote of thanks.

Various entertainment programmes those followed the stage programme were presented by the students and former students.

Obituary

Alexander T Picardo, ( A T Picardo, 74), Barkur/Bangalore  Son of the late Sebastian and Catherine Picardo of Barkur and husband of Dr Anita Picardo, passed away in Bangalore on February 4.

Funeral service in St Patrick's Church, Bangalore at 10-30 am on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, followed by burial in the Hosur Catholic cemetery.

He is probably the First  Charted  Accountant from Barkur.

Mass Weddings at Bennekudru

In order to promote simple weddings without dowry, Mogaveera Youth Movement has organized mass weddings at the premises of Shri Kula Mhasthri Amma Temple at Bennekudu, Barkur on 29th April 2007 as announced in a press conference by Sathish Amin, Padukere, District President of the movement.

As the there is a  growing tendency day by day in organizing huge and lavish weddings and spending money  on unnecessary luxuries, the Mogaveera Youth Movement has taken this initiative to curb such practices. The ceremony will be simpler and all the necessary arrangements will be done by the 30 units of the movement and already 10 couples have registered their names to participate in the ceremony.

According to the announcement those who are interested should contact the office of the Movement located at Shri Guru Building , near Sanskrith College, Udupi by 31st of March 2007.

Other office bearers of the Movement, M.S. Sanjeeva, Kota, Ramesh Kidiyoor, Shailesh, Prakash Suvarana, Katapadi, Ashok Kunder and others present at the press conference.
