Ward Day Celebrated at Hosala

The ward day Or Vadyaacho Dees of  Hosala St.Lawrence Ward was celebrated recently at Maryknoll Higher Primary School hall. All the ward members actively participated in the event.

Rev. Fr.Remegeous Aranha presided over the function. Herald D’Souza, Vice President and Irene Pais, Secretary of the Parish Council were the chief guests. The newly selected ward gurkaar Dolphy D’Lima, ward representative Cynthia Dais were on the stage.

Joseph Pinto who served as the ward gurkaar for the last twelve years was felicitated with traditional shawl and a manpothr along with his wife. Fr.Aranha did the honors and Gurkaar Dolphy D’Lima read out the manpothr. Brilliant students from the ward who topped in exams were rewarded with cash prizes and students who completed their graduation and post graduation were also recognized and honored.

Recently elected members for the Parish council from the ward were also recognized at this occasion.

Noreen Lobo welcomed the gathering and Joseph D’Souza aptly conducted the proceedings and Edward D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks.

Various entertainment programmes like songs, dances and skits were presented were well appreciated by the ward members.

Independence Day At Barkur

The 60th India Independence day celebrated at various locations at Barkur. As the celebrations were simultaneous at many schools and government locations we could cover only few places. Here are the pictures those speak for themselves.

Zonal Yoga Championship Competitions at Barkur

Primary and High School Level Zonal Yoga Championship Competitions of Brahmavar Zone were held at Mary knoll High School Barkur on 9th August organized jointly by the school and government educational  department.

B.N. Shankar Poojari, President of the Udupi Jilla Panchayath presided over the inaugural function and Rev.Fr.Remigeous Aranha was the chief guest. P. Raju Poojari, Zonal Physical Education Coordinator, M.S. Nagaraja Rao, Resource Person in Yoga for the state, Ashok Poojari, District Yoga Coordinator, Sr.Lenny Crasta, Mother Superior of IHM Convent and the Correspondent of the Mary knoll High School, Sr. Asha Helen Pereira, Head Mistress of MHS, Umesh Shenoy, Manager , Syndicate Bank , Barkur were present on the stage.

Physical Education teacher, Herald Gonsalves welcomed officials , guests and the participants  and the teachers from the various schools from the zone. Fr. Aranha, Shankar Poojari and M.S. Nagaraja Rao jointly inaugurated the championship competitions by lighting the lamp. Teacher Swarnalatha conducted the proceedings and proposed vote of thanks.

The competitions were held in various rounds for boys and girls under the age of 14 and under the age of 17 years.

Jilla Panchayath School Santhekatte, Kallianpur bagged the group championship for girls and boys under 14 years age and under 17 years age group championship was claimed by Sharada High School Cherkadi.

Satheesh Amin, President, Mogaveera Youth Association and Akthar Ahmed, President Rotaract Club were present at the valedictory function held in the evening and distributed the individual prizes and the group shields.

Breakfast, lunch and evening snacks were arranged for all the participants and teachers.  Speaking to barkuronline.com, P. Raju Poojari, Zonal Physical Education Coordinator expressed his satisfaction for the professionalism displayed by the Mary knoll High School staff in organizing such and event at Barkur and appreciated  PE teacher Harry Gonsalves and School Staff Rudolf D’Souza  for their initiative and efforts in making the event a very big success. He thanked HM Sr. Asha Helen for taking up the challenge within few months after taking the charge at the school.

Barkur College gets ‘B’ Grade from NAAC  

Smt. Rukmini Shedthi Memorial First Grade Government College has managed to get a B Grade in the valuation conducted by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) a Central Government council which assesses the colleges for the all the facilities and documentations. Proudly announcing this news, K.Jayaparakash Hegde, MLA and the President of the College Development Committee said that this is the only government college among all in the Udupi District to achieve this grade. Mr.Sudhakar Shetty, Main Sponsor of the college, Mr.Rajashekhar Hebbar, Principal were present at the time of announcement.

The committee of NAAC was headed by Dr.Saraswathi Rao, Vice Chancellor, Krishna Devaraya University, Ananthapur in Andhra Pradesh. The other members who helped in the valuation process were Prof.M. Jagirdaar, Director, Moulalna Azaad Educational Institute, Aurangabaad, Pro.Sumayya Davood, Principal, Thasleem Biwi Women’s College, Tamilnadu.

The college has also qualified recently for the grants from University Grants Commission of Central Government and many new degree courses are introduced from this year.

Barkur Choir Win at the prestigious Diocesan Choir Competition.

Barkur Choir group won the third place at the Diocesan Choir Competition held at Sandesha, Mangalore. Lead by talented Eric Soans, former editor of Pedruchi Chavi, Barkur Parish bulletin, this no small achievement for the Barkur Choir group considering the fact that this was the only group from Udupi District that competed and were pitted against city parishes like Anjelore, Bejai from Mangalore city.

The competition was organised by Sandesha Foundation for culture and Education in Mangalore by Director Fr. Francis Lewis and coordinator Ashith Pinto and was open for all the parishes from Mangalore Diocese. Bajpe Parish won Rs.5000 as the first prize and second prize Rs.3000  shared by Anjelore and Bejai choir groups while Barkur bagged Rs.2000 for the third place judged by Fr.Alwyn Sequeira and well known music director Joel Pereira and presented by veteran music maestro Fr.Walter Albuquerque.

The hymn was written and composed by Eric himself along with many he composed for various feasts and celebrations at Barkur and will be used in devotional cassette that Sandesha Founadation is planning to bring out and choir members  participated Praveen Carvalho, Naveen Dias, Mervin Quadros, Rashmi Olivera, Suzita Suaris,  Janice D'Souza, Jasmine Mendonca and Michelle Andrade will be given chance for singing in the recorded version.The programme coordinator Ashith asked the Barkur choir group to sing another hymn, which was presented after the competition. Anston Dais accompanied the group on keyboards.
