Thieves decamp with goods worth lakhs from Moodukeri Vengopalakrishna Temple

Unidentified miscreants have broken into recently renovated Venugopalakrishna temple at Moodukeri Barkur and have decamped with gold and cash worth lakhs in the wee hours of 14th July.

The priest had gone home after  performing daily pooja in the previous evening and after that thieves  have stolen various ornaments including the idol of deity and many alms boxes, total value is more than Rs 1 lakh. Sub Inspector Sunil Kumar from  Brahmavar Police station visited the temple along with Police Dogs and registered the FIR.

These miscreants looted the cash from  the alms boxes from the neighboring Saraswathi Narayani Temple and left the weapons used to beak in the temples.

However, neighbors have expressed surprise over the case of theft in spite of the temple being surrounded by many houses. Police are suspecting the local goons and enquiring the old-timers.

Renovation of Panchalingeshwara Temple

Indian National Trust For Arts and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) has taken up the project of renovating few temples in five historical places the coastal districts of Karnataka and Barkur is one among the chosen ones. The trust which provides the expertise and advice for the preservation and restoration of the historical monuments and cultural heritage will develop each of these places at a cost of Rs.40 lakhs and 20% of this cost i.e Rs.8 lakhs are to be raised by the local committees.

Various local, technical and advisory committees consisting of experts and dignitaries are formed for the project and an agency including top notch retired officers of the state government with the help of Asian Development Bank for the execution of the project.

Panchalingeshwara Temple is main in Barkur to be restored under this project at a cost of Rs.20 lakhs and the demolition job is already completed. Choulikeri Ganapathi Temple, Managarakeri Somanatheshwara Temple, Someshwara Temple of Moodukeri and Kallu Chappara are he other places to be renovated at a later stage.

B. Shanatharama Shetty, President , Barkur Grama Panchayath heads the local committee  and in charge of the project.

With 3 crore Suvarna Gramodyoga Yojane,  a full pledged resort, multi disciplined government first grade college, well connected railway station and this renovation project, Barkur seems to be bouncing back in vigor after it went to hibernation due to the collapse of the bridge.

Looks like the reconstruction of the collapsed bridge has breathed whip of fresh air into the happenings in and around Barkur.  With the completion of this project and the ongoing projects like 2 crore Babbu Swami Kshethra at Kachur, Barkur is going to be a major tourist destination of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.

Shrinivasa Shettigar gets National Recognition.

Rotary Club, Barkur bagged the Best Club award among the clubs in Rotary District 3180 for the social services rendered in educational and religious fields.

President Shrinivasa Shettigar, Secretary B.Sudhakar Rao  and other members received this prestogeous award from the District Governor Sadananda Chathra at the colourful awards nite programme at the Shamili Auditorium Udupi.

Chairman of the awards committee Laxminarayana , Regional In charge N.Bhojaraja Shetty were present at the occasion.

President Shrinivasa Shettigar who runs the famous Shettigar Industries at Ranganakeri Barkur received Narional Award in recognition of his social services from Integerated Council  For Socio Economic Progress from Delhi.

He received this award from Minister M.V. Rajashekhar at a function organised at the Hotel Royal Orchid at Bangalore.

Patron’s  Feast  and  Hall Inauguration

Patron St.Peter’s Feast was celebrated on 29th June at Barkur and the dream project of the parish ,  a grand function hall inaugurated .

The parishioners  participted in the High mass  concelebrated by Rt.Rev.Dr.Alloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore, Rev.Dr.Valerian D’Souza, Episcopal Vicar, Udupi, Rev. Marcel Saldanha, Correspondent, Milagres Educational  Institutes, Kallianpur  and Rev. Remigiuos Aranha, Parish Priest  who  spearheaded the much  awaited  project.

The Parish Hall was inaugurated by B.Shantharam Shetty, President , Barkur Grama Panchayath who spoke on the occasion and congratulated the parishioners for having realised a long cherished dream.  Rt.Rev.Dr.Alloysius Paul D’Souza presided over the function and blessed the hall. Rev.Dr.Valerian D’Souza,  Rev. Marcel Saldanha, Sathish Poojari, Memer , Taluk Panchayath, Udupi, Richard Carvalho, President , St.Peter’s Association (Barkur) Mumbai, were the chief guests.

Gerald  Gonsalves,  former vice president of the parish council  spoke and narrated suucess story of the project.  The Hall Contractors and other workers were felicitated at this occasion.

Fr. Aranha expressed his happiness and thanked all those who contributed for the success of this project.  Herald  D’Souza  , Vice President,  parish council proposed the vote of thanks. Irene Pais  , Secretary conducted the proceedings.
