ICYM Sports
Various sports competitions held in preparation with the 30th
Annual Day of ICYM Barkur attracted many parishioners and turned
out to be crowd puller.
The main attractions of Slow Bike Racing and Slow Bicycle Racing
for men and boys and slow Scooty race for women saw a large number
of participants taking part with enthusiasm.
But the top of the icing was the competition of weaving the
coconut tree leaves, which was definitely a scene stealer . See
the pictures clicked by Dr.Manoj D’Lima, who is doing a
wonderful job as a Doctor, President of ICYM and great reporter

Vidyamanya School
Students from Shri
Vidyesha Vidyamanya National English Medium High School , Heradi
Barkur have excelled in extra curricular activities.
The Ball-Badminton
team from the school won first place in District level Ball
Badminton Tournament held at SVS School, Gangolli , conducted by
Department of Public Education. The team also represented the
school in the Mysore Zonal level tournament.
Sahana Vaidya,
8th standard student from the school won the first place in Folk
Songs Singing in the District level Prathibha Karanji,conducted
by Department of Public Education, held at Vidya
Nikethana School at Kaup and repersented the school for the same
in the Karanataka State level.

Obituary
J Francis Xavier
Sequeira (84), husband of the late Rosa Helen Sequeira and
mother of Aubrey, Alphonse, Enid and Lowell, passed away on
December 9, 2007.
Mortal remains will
be brought home at 2-30 pm on Monday, December 10, followed by
funeral service in St Peter's Church, Barkur at 4-00 pm.

Seminar on Awareness
of Law at Barkur
ICYM
Barkur, in association with Rotary Club, Barkur, Association of
Lawyers, Udupi District, and Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural
Development Project, Udupi District organized a one day seminar on
Awareness of the Law and the facilities available to the Women and
the general public.
The
programme at Souharda, the parish hall at Barkur was
inaugurated by K.N.Phaneendra, Honourable District Judge and
presided over by Rtn. Rathnakar Shetty , President, Rotary Club,
Barkur.

Ramachandrayya, Senior Civil Judge, Rev. Fr. R.C.M. Aranha, Parish
Priest, Barkur, Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, President, Association of
Lawyers, Udupi District, Rtn. PHF Rajaram Bhat, Asst.Governor,
Rotary District 3180, Mahesh, In-Charge, Brahamavar Zone Shri
Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project, and Dr. Manoj
D’Lima, President ICYM, Barkur were the chief guests present on
the stage.
The
resource persons on the subject talked at length and gave a lot of
useful information about the various laws to protect the basic
rights of women and the general public. They answered the queries
and doubts raised by the public. The participants also interacted
with the judges and lawyers with enthusiasm and fervor and were
better informed and happy at the end of the day.

Rosa Helen
Sequeira (74), former staff nurse at the Ministry of Health,
Fahaheel, State of Kuwait, wife of Xavier (J F X) Sequeira), and
mother of Aubrey (Kuwait), Alphonse (Kuwait), Enid (Australia) and
Lowell (Barkur), passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2007.
Mortal remains will
be brought to Barkur home at 2-30 pm on Tuesday, December 4,
followed by funeral service in St Peter Church, Barkur at 4 pm.

Hanehalli Primary
School in news
The
students from National Higher primary School, Hanehalli, Barkur
have excelled in the sports. The girls Volley Ball team of the
school have won the first place in Udupi District level in Under
14 category.
Similarly
boys Volley Ball team have won Taluk level and qualified for
District level tournament to be held at Udupi.
The
Physical Trainer of the school Mr.Arun Kumar is the coach for both
these teams and proved himself to be an asset to the school.
Rotary Barkur news
The Women wing of the Rotary, Ann’s Club was inaugurated recently
at Barkur. Chithra Nagendran inaugurated the new club headed by
the newly elected President Jayashri R. Shetty. Sumathi G. Vakuda
is elected as the secretary. Rotary President Rathnakar Shetty,
Secretary Prakash Achar, District Governor Nagendran, Rajaram Bhat,
K.P. Kanchan, Ananda Shetty and others were present at the
occasion.
At the same occasion, Barkur Rotary bulletin Bhoothala
Pandya was released by Ex-Governor Jnana Vasantha Shetty.
The newly constructed Bus-Stop by Rotary Barkur in front of
National Pre University College was inaugurated recently by
District Governor K. Nagendran. . Rotary President Rathnakar
Shetty, Secretary Prakash Achar,, Bhojaraj Shetty, Jayarama Shetty,
Shrinivasa Shettigaar, Sudhakar Rao were present.
