From the very bottom of my heart………

Read it, read it not once or twice, but countless times, ‘Barkur down the Centuries’, that each occasion, it’s a different experience, as it unfolds its royal stature.

Astonished, shocked even felt sorry today… to see the present state of affairs, Not too late, and you made us feel proud and work towards, to make it ‘Holy Barkur’.

It’s really wonderful to know our roots…and the importance of Barkur. Each and every line speaks in volumes of the glorious past of people and place. We salute and thanks to the great efforts put in by Archie to gather, it’s half work, unless the last word you firmly expressed put into practice !?

Surely you now made to think and visit the places and spots marked so beautiful, yes, everything around us day in and out is less important and so is ignored. Now we know the greatness, holiness and its place in the history truly rightful, Wake up, social workers and State Administration and see lost goodwill restored.

Let’s hope, this document too doesn’t rest in archives of this web-site, Rather, be a tool to the youngsters and students apply themselves to learn more.

Personally, I noticed in the article a great passion, admiration and insight, Almighty will reward you in abundance, as this mode you chose Him to serve.

It is a wonderful poem by Antony Barkur -"Gurugala Nenedu." After reading, I remembered my elementary teachers who taught me to read and write!

Week long festivities in Barkur. Nice to see the restoration of Moodukere temple. I remember , Barkur (the then) High School used to keep swimming competition in this Kere, or the Holy Temple pond. The fish were so friendly, they used to clean and nibble away my toes!

It's also interesting to see the Restored' public display of faith, from people from Byndoor to Bantwal, or Kasargod, who could be called pilgrims to Barkur. If all the temples were restored to their original beauty, people will come.

"You build, and people will come." You build a swimming pool, Children will swim. You build a cricket field, children and adults will start playing cricket. You build a park, and people will come to take a stroll. You build a garden, and people will admire the God's creation in the form of flowers. Even bees, butterflies, and birds will show up. Yes, open a Bank, people will deposit money. Open a shop, people will buy. Open a motel and people will stay for an extra day.

Hence, restore the the temples, and people will come and pray, and restore their faith too. When people pray, economy will grow!|! I too pray for prosperity, as well. Oh, yes, as simple as that.

I used to re-use my shirt, whenever, my mother restored the buttons back!, as simple as that. I heard, nowadays, if a shirt button is lost, they toss the shirt away, and buy a new one. Even the poor do not want a button less shirt!

What a broad and realistic vision, Mr Fernandes for Barkur, yes, to those who are narrow and engaged in petty political gains in the name of religion must see within self. Fortunately Barkur hardly known for any such incidents neither in the past nor now, not in future.

Lastly, introduce new and fresh faces as POM on a regular basis, as I agree with M.Kamath's view.

Really remarkable and well organized site. Someone like you trying to safeguard the historical importance of your native place. Its really nice. Both Barkur and Basrur has similar kind of historical background. Unfortunately no websites are made on Basrur. Can you people do something about this issue?

Chandrashekhar, Mumbai, 18/04/2007

We are happy to hear that Barkur is getting special funds under suvarna grama yojane - let the funds, atleast 60% convert into development work, it's a great achievement! At last the efforts and dream of Barkuronline to make Barkur a tourists destination is on its way to realisation, congrtulations!!

MM Alvares, alvaresmm@hotmail.com, 17/04/2007

Yes, Restoration is very important.  No, by restoring temples, you are not restoring a religion, that is a narrow minded thinking..  You are restoring the rich history of Barkur, not religion.

But, and besides, You are restoring economy, which is equally important. The world is taking care of Taj Mahal.  Tell me, are they interested in its religion or the revenue it brings? We can restore the glory of Barkur, by restoring the temples, economically.   The Fort, the basadies, etc.

Jerusalem is surviving.  Do we know how, that every nook and corner of Jesrusalen has its history, they sell relics, as if they were touched by Jesus, 2000 years ago.  Was there a Rosary 2000 years ago?

If Barkur cannot cash in from its history, I guess, Oh, well, I must be a fool to talk such things.

"2-3 crores for Concrete roads, well maintained ponds, pure drinking water to all, public toilets, tourist center , guest house, library … the dream list goes on and the challenge lies only with leaders who are at helm of this project. "

Hope some people will keep track of these funds, for which our politicos have worked hard with their influence to obtain such huge amount of money. Congratulations to our Barkur leaders.

Will the water be clean? Will the ponds be free of broken glass and floating garbage? Can one swim without getting rashes? Will the roads be free of bumps and pot holes? Wah, public toilets? Will there be water to flush? Who will clean them besides the flies, stray dogs and domesticated pigs?

[Did you know that Eating pork was dogmated as "Eating pork is against the religion", mainly because, the shortage of pigs caused the outhouses getting overloaded?] Weren't they wise? They told me, "If you feed and take of the farm animals in this life, you might go to school and become a teacher in next life." Well, I had raw warm eggs for breakfast, while the rest were drinking congee water!

Back to 3-4 crores. Hope this money will not go waste, as the Foxes guarding the chicken? Or like the monkeys saving the fish from drowning. I did offer flowers to cows, they ate them......

Barkur will have a public library. Where are the books? Where are the local newspapers? Where are the periodicals? Where are the Scientific journals, the Magazines, the Journal of Rearing, Caring and Catching Fish in Barkur? The Journal on Rice Farming? The Mechanics, the Laboratories, The periodicals of Teachers Associations? The Journal of Sharing wisdom, intelligence, and Self reliance............. Thought for today, "One should aim for the top most mango, at least you may hit the middle one!"

Oh, yes, why bother for feedback?

Best Wishes for a Happy Easter, to all of you at Barkur and around the world.

Feliciana D'Silva, 08/04/2007.

On Easter, Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as it is told in the Bible. This holy day celebrates the triumph of life over death. Happy Easter to all of you.

Philiph Richard.P., 08/04/2007.

As the Easter commemorates the resurrection of Christ after the crucifixion and death. Traditions associated with the festival are the Easter rabbit, a symbol of fertility and colored Easter Eggs representing the gay hues of spring. So also we expect spring in this site with better articles / fun / masala in your web pages too. Have a wonderful feast, barkuronline.com members and all visitors.
