Eat When You're Hungry
Someone
asked a Zen Master, "How do you practice Zen?" The master said, "When
you are hungry, eat; when you are tired, sleep." "Isn't that what
everyone does anyway?" The master replied, "No, No. Most people
entertain a thousand desires when they eat and scheme over a thousand
plans when they sleep."
Carrying and Leaving.
Once
upon a time, there were two monks who went on a pilgrimage across the
country together. One day, they came to a river bank and saw a
beautiful girl who was unable to cross the river. Seeing her
difficulty, the elder monk volunteered to carry her across the river
on his back while the younger one looked on in consternation. When the
sun went down, the monks came upon a dilapidated shack and decided to
stay there for the night. The elder monk quickly fell asleep while the
younger one twisted around, unable to calm his mind.
Finally, he woke up the elder monk and reprimanded him for what
happened during the day, "As monks, we are supposed to keep away from
women. I am really ashamed and troubled by what you did today!" The
elder monk looked at his friend and a smile broke up on his face, "Oh,
so that has been bothering you! Brother, I have left the girl behind
by the river bank, why are you still carrying her around?"

It
is a wonderful work by old students of Barkur National Junior
College.I still re-collect those Memories. Huge campus, best weather
and beautiful garden. Really the highschool / junior college would
have been degree college in 70's itself, then the prospects / look of
Barkur and present of Barkur would have been different. Today's first
grade college catering neighboring students better than of Barkur who
prefer SMS/ Milagres /PPC/MGM etc and well to do seek admission in
engg / medical and other professions I was told. After all juniorr
college we studied only for 2 years, a pleasant experience throughout
life time.
Thanks to learned lecturers of the time.

What is this vaikunt? Is this sorg? Is this Yemkond, or is this
pulgothr? We all expect this custom must be followed, not knowing the
meaning of certain vocabulary..... I had asked this question about 50
years ago. I did not get an answer....
Hope someone will answer here........... Why do they oil the ears a
day before the wedding?
Boss to the secretary, "I guess tomorrow you will be on time to work."
"What makes you say so?"
Boss: "The weather is going to be 100 degrees. You don't have to spend
lot of time deciding what to wear tomorrow!"

money!!
Here are some suggestions:

A Police Station - Barkur needs one. B) A Tourism Centre. C)A Public
Library. D) A Home for the Aged. E) A Park.
Other Priorities:

Station.5) Beautification of Temples with good approach roads. 6)A
Modern fully equipped Hospital. 7)A 24 hours Emergency Service. 8)A

Barkur is truly vibrant. Lot of activities here and there. During my
recent visit my family was more than happy to see the progress and a
big change. Surely, the bridge has shown its importance.
Secondly, history of our Barkur is really surprising to note. For a
moment, a needle of doubt creeping my mind – is this place so great
once upon a time? It is a commendable effort of Mogaveera community to
help fellow brethren by organizing Mass weddings. This is also a
historical moment isn’t it – 25000 strong crowd in this island, Benne
Kudru. My grand parents used to tell so many incidents, stories
involving this Garodi, a place sacred for fishermen of the Coast.
The
host has taken all care to cover all Barkurians and all age groups,
say youngsters also chosen to be Personality of the month e.g. Divya
Furtado / Kamath in his site.
One
of your best columns hall of fame is not getting new faces. Hope
necessary attention is given. As a whole, it is an effort well
deserves to be acknowledged being a Barkurian. Keep going May God
Bless all of you involved in this superb job.

All the very best and Happy married life for
each and every pair who got married in Bennekudru mass wedding. I
learned from friends that marriage expenditure was only 30K-40K/pair
which was very very reasonable and also organizer and donors took care
of all expenditure. These people are real role model for society. I am
proud to be born in Barkur. Many thanks to Barkur online for flash
news and beautiful photos. As Mr. James Fernandes asked for writing an
article about Mogaveeras, will try to write one soon.

James Fernandes, we agree you are very much right, No one now deny
‘Barkur on line’ is on fast track once again. Hotel, Mass marriage and
renovations of houses of God ‘History gets repeated’ they say and here
is a proof.
Archie has arranged what has happened yesterday, And today the place
lives up to that reputation, to confirm.
Is
there a dearth of people to qualify as POM? Also is it not tiring to
HOF to be sticker there for so long. Other day, it was Archie’s Corner
eagerly watched for, So is Spiritual and news briefs and reports with
lively snaps.
Now, messages a place to visit in for some like me, to share, In one
word, it is a balanced web site, covering Barkur.
‘The man honoring others is greater than the one honored’, Is a
question always ask myself…..Kishoo Barkur, You are marvelous
especially you chose to respect others, In doing so, you emerge
tallest among all, at premium.
Wish all of you all the best, to bake us the fresh and spicy, And
don’t compromise the quality and dignity to appeal all.

What is prestige Felciana? If the fish costs Rs. 50, as per Rukku the
Fisher woman in Barkur fish market, The Mysoreghar offers
Rs.
55, the Bombayite offers Rs. 75 and Middleast guy on vacation offers
Rs. 100.00 to the same two Bangdas.
Is
this prestige? There is NO prestige in overspending, especially when
one can't afford.........And then wind up in a Ashram for destitutes.
Is this prestige? Who will tolerate such prestige? May be some
sunshine friends.
How
many sunshine friends will call you to know your welfare if and when
you lose your job? Believe me, when you have no job/income, all you
have is you and your God. It's a pity, God is there even when you are
penniless.
No
one else, nothing else. Not even your dog. Even the God's Servants
will tell you, "I am praying for you!" I guess, overspending is
prestige, but when such prestige disappears, then
what?................ Is borrowing
money without the ability to return, and spending on a wedding, Is
this prestige? So be it................
James Fernandes,
USA, 02/05/2007
Marriage is a costly affair in India. The pomp and exhibition has
become prestige issue too. Mogaveera community has taken a lead to
help economically weak by organising mass weddings.
But
fail to understand, 24000 guest treatments on an average of 400 per
pair is not a costly affair? Most important is cost saving and
elimination of dowry, at the same time helping the poor grooms /
brides must be taken care. Keep up the basic objectives and continue
this work year after year.

Wah,
Barkur is not sleepy hamlet any more. It's awake, alive, healthy and
prospering. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder to appreciate. The
repaired and newly constructed bridges, the renovated temples and
celebrations, the mass weddings, the Five star resort near Barkur
Railway station, and moreover the historical article on Barkur History
by
Archie, wah, to report all these, Kishoo must be in Barkur on
vacation! The pictures of those dignified 59 brides and grooms,
wearing 20 gram Kariamanies, garlands, and Mundasaas, remind me of the
(pictures) petty kings and queens of pre-British empire days! The
concept, "Spend within your means" is to be highly appreciated and
emulated by one and all. Kudos to the organizers.
Kishoo, the photographs, are fabulous. Thank God, you can afford,
Right? The outer ring bridge, instantly reminded me of the Marine
Drive of Bombay, and also of Lake shore drive of Chicago.
Shall we come up with a Barkuroneline.com calendar using these
pictures? (Yes, ideas are free, implementations are not cheap!) All
you, readers, "Barkur is Calling You."
James Fernandes,
USA, 01/05/2007
All
the best to newly married couples, may God Bless all of you and the
organisors. It is a big achievement Benne Kudru youngsters, a yeoman
job to the society. We are very happy to read the report.
