Congratulations to Multi-talented Eric Soans. Third place this time, first place next time. By the way, Barkur Choir is in First place in the (Soon to be) Udupi Diocese! Keep up. Eric, be proud and smile more please. Let your team smile while singing. The smiles can absolve even if they sing off beat. When they smile, the singing looks like, it is emanating from the bottom of their heart, shows enthusiasm, and looks they are really enjoying the singing with full force putting forth all they have.

Take this observation with a pinch of salt, even though, I am not qualified nor have earned the right to pass on even constructive criticisms. Thank you, all. Haven’t we heard, those who smile at the teachers, get more marks in the exams! The teachers do not deduct points for missing comas or any grammar mistakes!

In Barathanatyam dance, the students are taught to put on even the artificial smiles, even when they are struggling and in in agony, while standing on their toes! I have decided to put on my best smile during the last judgment! Hope I will remember!

It is not only with Barkur, whole Canara is known to export brains and thereby earn considerable foreign exchange as well as handsome amount by way of domestic remittances to the residents back home. In future too, the trend will continue. The latest development is migration. People generally fed up with poor roads, power, water problems.... though they are proud of natives. More dangerous development in these days is religious fanatism and so called moral police in the name of religion, force many peace loving people leave the place and find better one far away. With regards,

It takes a village to kill the tiger that terrorized the village. It takes a village to raise a child to become

someone other than a thief. It takes a village to save a drowning victim. It takes a village to find these thieves who not only stole from the holy temple but desecrated the holy dwelling place of God. The tools they left behind will have markings, lot numbers, etc., and one can easily find out who manufactured them, who sold them, and even who bought them. One who bought them is not necessarily the thief, for these tools might have been stolen as well. Yes, it takes a village, provided the village is prepared to find the culprits.

What if Barkur is not a village? Mr. Mendonca, it takes a village to run this Barkuronline.com. Glad you noticed that it is doing a 'good' job. Please help us to do a 'better' job, which has been our goal. Thank you. By the way, why do they preserve the gold in the temple? Do the banks a have 'Safe Deposit Boxes'?

Barkur grown grains produce quality brains that's why, Mr James in US, Kishoo in UAE, Archie in Muscat, me at Kuwait......In a way it exports best one and average one alike. My grandpa used to tell me except coconuts grown at Barkur gardens nothing else in selling volume. All the best friends and by the way what's the news about Pedruchi Chavi...?.

A visitor to an insane asylum found one of the inmates rocking back and forth in a chair coing repeatedly in a soft contended manner, "Lulu, Lulu, ...." "What's this man's problem?" he asked the doctor.

"Lulu.  She was the woman who jilted him." was the doctor’s reply. As they proceeded on the tour, they came to a padded cell whose occupant was banging his head repeatedly against the wall and moaning, lulu, Lulu, ..."

"Is Lulu this man's problem too?" asked the visitor. "Yes," said the doctor. He's the one Lulu finally  married."

One need not be unhappy by not getting what one wants, because, there is no guarantee that one will be happy after getting what one wanted. Everthing is temporary..... including happines. Hence,  eat fast like a dog, for there is no surety of its next meal.

A reporter asked several people in a small town if they knew the president of a certain Community Charity Centre. (CCC)

"He is liar and a cheat," said a housewife. "He is a pompous ass, All Talk, No action." said the school teacher. "Charity to his wife and his kids, Charity begins and ends at least in his home!" Said a poor road cleaner.

"He is not even a Sunday Christian," said the Sacristan. "He is a double edged ego maniac," said someone else. "He is corrupt and most selfish person. Not at all a team player." He never paid me for the eye glasses," said the local ophthalmologist.

"He never pays the grocery bills," said the corner store owner. The reporter finally met the President of the CCC organization, and asked him what kind of salary he receives. "Good Heavens, I don't get any salary." "Then why did you take the job?"

"For the honor, man, for the HONOR." "What an honour" was the title of the article in the Sunday News Paper, about this person who works for the 'Honour." selflessly or perhaps selfishly?

My hearty congratulations to Mr.Srinivas Shettigar. He made Barkur and all Barkurians proud. Well done. Infact  he deserves this. Even before joining Rotary Club, he was always doing his best for the society. Moreover his friendly nature and ever smiling face has made him well accepted in Barkur. Rotary club has given a new platform for him to serve the society. Keep the spirit and keep going Mr.Shettigar... good luck to you. Regards,

"Next generation will be happy to convert such agro-fields into commercial plots, a sure reality.", says MM Alvares. If this prediction were to become reality, in Barkur sugar will be imported from Cuba, Pineapple from Hawaii, Rice from Canada, Shrimps from China, Coconuts from Kerala, Milk from Wisconsin (USA, Bangdaas from Dubai, Potatoes from Idaho (USA), Chillies from Mexico, etc. What exactly will be Exported from Barkur? Brains like Doctors, Nurses, Lawyers, Programmers, Movie Makers, Teachers, Priests, and Nuns, and Bishops, Cardinals, and perhaps the First Indian Pope from Barkur!

Why the Barkur catholic  girls have to join religious organizations of other countries? Why not a 'Mother House Originate from  Barkur Kudru, and have branches/convents all over the world? The Rice plots of today will be the Mother  houses or World Headquarters of tomorrow? (There are hardly any Olive tree plots). I hope there won't be any poor person to perform any menial job, because all such jobs will be done by robots. (My neck is still in pain, for, I used to haul cow dung and silted manure in wick baskets on my head. I don't think I felt humiliated OR I felt, to do such jobs was below my dignity. Well, I had no choice then, is besides the point!) But today, people have plenty to choose from. And that's progress. Thank you Lord, Bhaghvan, and Allah. Nobody walks four miles to high school any more. Do they?

Months Mind

Abundius Fernandes

Remembering you on your month's mass
From:
Lenny Furtado, Ivy Coelho, Bernice Cooper and
Fly., Glen and Glynice,Bangalore.

By means of this small note, we send our best wishes to all Barkurian's around the globe for a HAPPY FEAST OF PATRON SAINT PETER ON 29/06/07. Have a wonderful feast as the customary heavy rain and floods are expected back home, but no threat of past. It is also nice to see the hall getting ready by this time special thanks to Fr.Aranha who took up the challenge against all odds and we all remain ever grateful. Hope to see a new HOF / POM soon. No updates for long in Archie's Corner too.

Happy to see newly wedded couples , congratulations everybody.

Rainy Days at natives and agro-works is refreshing with catchy snaps. There was a time household with land and domestic animals were preferred while arranging marriages. Now these belongings has become a head ache and liability. I know many aged people struggling hard to keep the process on.....and once a source of livelihood and prosperity, for hundreds of years, they hardly expected to loose its glitter so soon. Next generation will be happy to convert such agro-fields commercial plots, a sure reality.
