Hello Dr. D'Lima: Thank you for the thank you.

The point on canine teeth was intended just to spark a conversation. In spite of getting my two pair of wisdom teeth, I have not obtained any wisdom. As you can see on this site,I bark like a dog, apparently because, I have two pair of "canine teeth!

A very good, informative Website... Thanks a lot for its creator and people behind it... I feel homely and proud about Barkur whenever I visit this site...

Thank you very much Mr. James Fernandes for your acknowledgement and kind suggestions.. I will surely take your advice and make it a point to put up news and happenings in Barkur.

And for the dental question about your dentist insisting two "dog's" canines..... I would say that its ok...since we eat meat ,,tearing it etc..it would really help..."tamashege astte" forgetting the cosmetic look...ha ha ha.

Thank you once again.

Hi folks: I got this message from a missionary priest Fr. Walter, SVD, a Mangalorean, presently working in Jamaica, about the damages caused by DEAN the hurricane, in his parish and in the area in general:

The message is self explanatory: Hi All, Blessings. I am fine and give thanks to the Lord. As the days are passing, we come to know about the damage caused by Dean on its path. Some areas are very much damaged, loss of houses and property and crop. In our area we are making an assessment of the damage to the poor people and trying to help them to build up. We are getting some help from the Poor for the Poor agency and also Catholic Relief Service. Presently we are without power and water supply. Hope these will be restored soon. You can imagine life without water supply and electricity for days. I don't know when these will be restored. Hope soon. We had stocked some water before the hurricane hit us, and now slowly our tank is getting empty. After that perhaps we have to go to the river.

Well, life goes on. One thing you hear from the mouth of the people is something beautiful: "Thank God, there is life and therefore there is hope". That's it for now and God bless you.-Fr.Walter SVD

IT is very interesting to read Mr james wit and humour parcel with reality hiding in between.

It is also a good development that Dr. D'Lima is getting us more news from the town. Feast of nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary is around and expect some updates on this special occasion and celebrations of course, get us back to childhood days.

Don't you feel POM and other sections need new faces?

I read elsewhere that the Catholic Bishops and the Arch-bishops from all over India are learning (in Mangalore) how to use and take advantage of the computer usages such as, "E-mails, E-medicine, E-learning, E-games, E-shopping, E-banking, E-chats, E-justice, E-governance, E-prayer, E-prasad and even E-marriages!", in helping to spread the word of God, and in helping spread Peace and harmony.

Hope someone will not teach them how to play, "Solitaire", a Card game on the computer! Glad to know they are accepting the modern technology, especially in the field of communication, such as Cinema, Radio, Television, Computers, 'You-tube', CDs, etc.

Hope to watch Holy Mass celebrations on "Youtube." Hope there won't be a 'Pastoral Letter", about the "Evils of Computers", such as many years ago, there were discussions on the evils of watching cinema! It's a mortal sin to watch pornographic sites! Who will manage the item called, Parental Controls over these computer novices? Asking Astte!

Hope there will be Websites for each Diocese. Does anyone know, who is teaching this course? just curious! If I watch Cardinal Toppo's Taped Sunday Mass, every week, sitting on my couch, will I be fulfilling my Sunday Obligation? Asking Astte.

Is there a Weekly Radio Hour, A mass televised or e-tubed, for the benefit of invalids, the sick and bed-ridden, who cannot reach a chuch edifice? But how many Catholics have computers?

Dearest Jerina & Sydney Lewis,

Happy and Blessed 15th Wedding anniversary. May Almighty God Bless both of you and your family too. With lots love and wishes from,

Keith, Maria, Habbu, Barkur. 23/08/2007

This is to acknowledge Dr. Manoj D'Lima's active participation and his contribution to this website. Thank you for covering news items, photographs, write-ups, etc. Actually, thousands of our readers are eagerly logging in once or twice a day to read and know the latest happening in Barkur. Lot more activities are happening in Barkur..... Anyway, just because there are NO witnesses of a 500 year old tree falling, it does not mean that the tree did not fall and die. Just because there is no record of my birth, it does not mean I was not born.
Anyway, Dr. D'Lima, give us the news, whenever your time and resources permit. By the way, gratitude cannot be measured financially..... Dr. D'Lima, I am not a dog, but my dentist insists that I have TWO canine (dog) teeth. Any comments? Sir?

I guess, in 1942 Ghandiji started the "Quit India" Movement. It was meant for the British to get out of India. BUT: Why is it that a lot of Indians, specially, doctors, nurses, IT (Programmers), Children of politicians, the rich, the educated, and mostly those who worked temporarily abroad, religious workers, etc., etc. are 'Quitting India.". ? Yes, 40 years ago, the reason was for better income, but why today? Just asking OR 'asking astte', that's all!

Happy Sixtieth year of Independence Day, from the British, India, the land of my birth. Wah, 60 years, already?

I heard someone say, that India is not a 'developing country' anymore, but developed country today.. Ask any software (IT) worker, who may agree.

15th of August is highly significant to me, personally. My late mother was  born exactly 100 years ago, on this date. The Roman Catholics believe, that, Mother Mary, mother of Jesus Christ, went to heaven with her body and soul, on this 15th day of August. Assumption. No burial place/tomb of Mother Mary is ever found to this date. AND most of all, India's Independence day, 15th of August., but for this  Independence, I would have been perhaps, ploughing someone else's rice fields, without health care, without a house of my own, without any teeth, and catching fish in river Sita, dreaming, that someday, I would land on the Sun at night, since it must be cool up there..........

Oh, Yes, slavery was blissful, I did not have to pay any bills, taxes...........

Yes Felcy, once again St Peter’s Association. Barkur – Mumbai, back in action. We remember, few years ago a attractive thick issue was sponsored by them. My request is to contain the achievements of elders – some Sequeiras, D’Silvas, D’Limas, Buthellos who has done a lot not only for themselves but to our Barkurians that too during tough times of early 20th and late 19th centuries. Nevertheless, present generations success is superb and must need a mention.

To the best of my understanding – there are some 5-10 Barkurians serving as Managers in different Banks, multinationals, factories etc. needed to be introduced as personality of month in Chavi and Barkur on line as well. Today there are more Barkurians in Mumbai than they are in Barkur and I salute the Association for bringing them under a banner.

Good poem by Anthony, it speaks present state of affairs. Suvarna Yojane may be having some allocation to restore old glory. 'History down the years and present' a vast difference. All the best,
