Rakesh Bhoja Shetty Saudi Arabia 16/09/2007

Dear All Barkurians,

Happy Chanesha Chaturthi to all. Very happy to see the "Barkur Ganesha" which is being worshipped at Ramamandir. We should all admire and appreciate Barkur Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava Samithi. They have been celebrating Ganeshotsava for years and still having the same spiritt and enthusiasm. Still remembering the cultural programms organised by them for a weeks time during this festival. Specially the "Gombeyaata" and "Yakshagana". Wish Ganesha bless all Barkurians.. With Wishes,

Uddalgudde Deepak Shetty, Japan, 16/09/2007

Hello Mr.Joseph M. D'Souza

I read your message in Barkuroniline.com, with great pleasure. A portion of which is copied here,

"We were approached by SPA functionaries that, a special Barkur church Magazine will be brought out during Christmas. I suggested having few pages reserved for English articles - future generation, I mean our children here in Mumbai not able to read Konkani in Kannada, but love for native parish may be sown, if such books contain all acceptable  English. Meanwhile, I will send an article on Barkurian's in Mumbai - in 50's and 60's. If any of our valued readers wish to include anyone better known to them may please forward the details to my e-mail address."

In response: You may mention the Roche family members, Denis, Antony, Edward, and Fr. Alfred Roche's brother in Bandra (Percy Roche's father), Then there was Cyril Buthello, a high ranking Official in a Parel Mill. Then there was Borges Sequeira, a famous Tailor, Malad. Unless, you can find further details on these people, as far as I am concerned, just naming them by YOU, in itself, will give me some satisfaction. There was my late uncle Mr. William Fernandes, son of Late Piedad Fernandes of Moodahadu Village, who died due to the Ship Explosion in Bombay dock in the year 1943 or 1944.

Please don't forget to include yourself!

Your efforts in bringing out the article , "Barkurians in Mumbai - in 50's or 60s' is highy appreciated. Hope it will shine in Barkuronline.com as well, if feasible.
Secondly, hope PC will honor your request to publish in English as well, for the benefit of BBBs, (Barkurians Born in Bombay). Thanks once, again.

Dear Kishore and all visitors

On the occasion of the Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary, I wish and pray that  our Beloved Mother shower her choicest Blessings on you and your family.

Augustine Dias, Barkur, 08/09/2007

Wish you all A Happy feast of Nativity of Mother Mary. As Monthi Feast is celebrated by Mangalorens all over the world with pomp and splendor, has been successful in uniting the Konkani communities in Gulf countries, over the years. In Kuwait too we are going to have grand Mass and festivities.

Feliciana D'Silva, Kuwait, 08/09/2007

While taking this opportunity in wishing all Barkurians and others a HAPPY MONTHI-FEST, thank Kishoo Barkur, and his team for keeping site vibrant and this is the reliable source of information to Barkur. I was the one always fascinated and admired your special articles - Hall of fame, of course the best section. Contemporary issues were well handled by Archie's Corner, with a niche of special touch, are missing for long time.

Nevertheless, we do admire his POM articles and Barkur down the Years - believe me, I hardly read long articles, no patience, but when it comes to these pages somehow tempted to read in full. Most of the things are new and news to me, though I spent my childhood and education at Barkur. Realised there are better writer's in Konkani hailing from Barkur - Anthony, Nelson, Eric etc etc. Kishoo himself an outstanding story teller, hence, why don't you paste such poems, stories published elsewhere, written by our own people.

Once again, wish you all a happy feast, as usual in Mumbai, 'Bandra Feast' will start and elaborate arrangements made by local Govt / Municipality. We were approached by SPA functionaries that, a special Barkur church Magazine will be brought out during Christmas. If any of our valued readers wish to include anyone better known to them may please forward the details to my e-mail address.

My heartfelt sympathies to Irene Aunty, Leslie/Clara, Lancy/Patricia, Praveen/Jessie. May God grant Rayu uncle's departed soul rest in peace.

Peter Menezes, Nagermat, Abu Dhabi, 08/09/2007

Congrats Harryaba. You really deserve to be POM. I wish u all happiness and more achievements in your colorful life with your family. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wish you all a Happy Monthi Feast on 8th September.

Paul Vincent Almeida, Saudi Arabia, 08/09/2007

Selection of a good, rewarding and right career, in life leads to all round progress of the person in life, also benefit the society as a whole. Earlier, one have little options to embrace any profession of one's choice. Most of us reluctantly carrying on with the profession selected, neither having interest nor progress. Barkur parish is training children / youth and their parents, at this direction, a welcome move.

We are more than happy to read about Herald in your POM section, it's really amazing to note the success story! Perfectly well written profile, would be more informative, if added a paragraph 'Harry as a Banker'. Normally, people ignore and don't recognize their own, but 'Barkur on line', is an exception - as many as 40- 50 people are honoured by the site for their various achievements and contributions, not limiting to Barkur alone but spreading the neighboring places, truly and highly appreciated.

Please keep this trend going-on and thank and request the Host and his team, to be more regular, all the best.

MM ALVARES, alvaresmm@hotmail.com - 06/09/2007

Its now long time, I got an opportunity to visit the site and to my surprise happy to see lot of happenings around Barkur. The hall proving to be boon and lot of activities. CYM seems to be back to its glory and must be so as the vice president himself is ex CYM stalwart as rightly mentioned in the personality of the month folder.

Felcy has echoed same feelings,  but I will not agree there is nothing attractive to youth to settle at natives. Today lot many opportunities at and around Mangalore and even in Udupi area. Eligible would be graduates are picked from the campus itself by Multinationals.

It is my strong feeling that the present generation must look around natives and they are offered almost near, what is offered by gulf nations. Moreover, peace of mind, living with family, social participation, security etc is there and over and above India is best only if you got an opportunity to live in abroad will agree to my opinion.

Congrats Harry on being POM and special thanks for his wonderful profile.

The loss is great and none can replace, Our heartfelt sympathies and prayers to Aunty , Leslie/Clara, Lancy/Patricia, Praveen/Jessie. May God give you the strength to bear the loss. May the lord grant his departed soul rest in peace.

Anirudh, Marina and Kishoo, Barkur, 05/09/2007

Great human being, great personality, great achievement a great success story! Congratulations Harry on the special moment of shining as Personality of The Month. Surely. Many youngsters going to be motivated inspired once they read your colorful profile. Wish you and family good health and surely expect your contributions to the Barkur and Barkur web-site in a big way. We are more than happy to read about you, thank you very much host for this valuable addition in the POM List of spectaculars, keep it up.

Feliciana D'Silva, Kuwait – 02/09/2007

Thank you Hemanth Kumar for your kudos to Barkuronline.com. This reminds of something like this I read somewhere, "Sombody has to do something, and it's just incredibly pathetic that it has to be us." This 'us' happens to be Kishore and his Shreemathi', for, every successful man, there is a lady behind, who happens to be Marina!

Just imagine Hemanth, if someone had not built those temples, mosques and Churches. Well, just imagine if those primary, secondary, and most importantly the National High School in Barkur was not started by some one or by some people! Do I have to whine more?

There was a farmer in Moodahadu. He had large sugarcane fields every year. He used fill his two boats full of sugarcanes for Jaggery, and then he used to allow the neighborhood children to collect the remaining sugarcanes, whatever they want. But not many were entering his field, because, their feet would get hurt/dirty, or they would get cuts from the sugar cane sharp leaves, or some kids were just plain lazy, and wanted their parents to collect the canes for them.

It's up to us to take advantage of this website. Help yourselves, with sugarcanes! These sugarcanes remind me of the upcoming September 8th, the Nativity of our Lady, and also of the Bennekudru Habba, the free sugarcanes at both the places, which I did enjoy!, Yes, even at Bennekudru Habba. Oh, Barkur, I left you long ago, but you have not left me!
