There
is no need for me to travel to my beloved Barkur. I get to know about
Barkur by logging into this
barkuronline.com,
a popular website. Latest I read, the cracks in the newly renovated
bridge plates. It’s a pleasure to take part in Kishoo’s website.
Whenever he goes to Barkur on vacation at least he has not given up in
updating this site. I get to read about the bridges, the roads, the
colleges, the Church activities, about the achievements of several
people as POMs, greetings, etc.
What
does it mean if I thank him and his team specially Archie? It’s a
pleasure to note that the Barkur born youngsters are reaching higher
and richer positions, may they be in politics like Gretta Lewis at
Saligrama, Ramananda Shetty at Hanehally, or the Guru of all
Jayaprakash Hegde, may they be in Medicine like Dr. Manoj D’lima, may
they be as teachers or Professors, bankers like Herald Lewis, may they
be in the religious practices like temple Poojaries, nuns, and
priests, or they may in music like Eric Soans, and many others. Will I
lose my pride if I tell them that, ”I am happy for you?” I guess not!
It’s
highly pleasing to note the relentless efforts of Fr. Remegius Aranha,
especially in placing the Parish hall, followed by several activities
in the same, such as the Leadership Seminar, elocution, Music, etc.
Folks, communication skills are very important to be successful in
life, and Public speaking/Oratory is highly useful to reach higher
positions. The seminar attendees will remember this farsighted effort
of Fr. Aranha in the years to come and will thank Fr. Aranha as they
deliver graduation speeches, wedding receptions, sermons, lectures in
the classrooms, public talks to gather votes or judicial judgments and
judges, defenses as lawyers, or broadcasting in TV news. If I say,
“Thank you Fr. Aranha” for filling the role where the need is most
required, will I lose anything? I guess not!
It’s
a pleasure to note that SPA is sponsoring the Parish Feast. Hope they
will spend less money on Fireworks thus spend more money to buy
uniforms etc., a gesture SPA is rendering faithfully since decades,
expecting no thanks, but still, I do thank you Bombay folks!
It’s
a pleasure to note the contributions of Jayaprakash Hegde in getting
the bridge repaired, (now he has to get the recent cracks get fixed),
in bridging Bennekudru to Kudru, in getting grants to repair the
dozens of dilapidated Barkur temples, water tanks, and the historic
fort., Does he get any thanks, I hope so.
It’s
a pleasure to know about the contributions of Sudhakar Shetty to the
Rukmini Shedthy College and his brother’s contribution such as
industrial sites to Barkur. My respects to them all! This does not
make me small.
It’s
a pleasure and pride to read about the Village to College scholarships
made available by my brother. I lose nothing by acknowledging in
saying, “I am proud of you, brother!”
It’s
a miracle of miracles to read all such above mentioned happenings in
Kishoo’s website. Young man, Barkur is proud of you, even if they do
not express it in words, kind, or silver. Keep up the good works, all
of you folks. Some roads or parks may bear your names. It’s better to
acknowledge when one is alive, than read long eulogies.

Hello Everyone,
It was a great news to
learn that we will be soon having a new bridge connecting Bennekudru
and Kudru islands as well as connecting to Mudahadu village where I
and my siblings grew up. We had to cross 2 rivers to reach Barkur
specially attending Sunday mass and catechism was a great hardship we
faced with until now. Reaching everyday to High school specially
during monsoon season was great challenge and we could not participate
after school sports activities since we have to walk and cross quickly
these rivers before the sunset to reach home since there was no
electricity.
After the
completion of the bridge, thanks specially to Jayprakash Hegde our
famous MLA for his tireless efforts in making this dream come true in
my lifetime making Pandeshwar and Moodahadu villagers, to reach Barkur
and of course for Barkurians to reach Sastan to buy fresh fish from
the well known Sastan fish market. I am sure the land prices will go
higher as people may think of building residential small houses etc as
there will be a new road to reach Sastan and Barkur as well as
Brahmavar etc. Our Barkur College will also have new students from
Sastan and from nearby villages to attend college with much shorter
distance to travel.
I must ask James to
travel to Barkur next year to witness the great change taking place
there and have him come out of his old dream of the village and the
old Barkur which he always recalls and writes frequently. He may
change his old attitude soon after his trip.
