4th  Birthday Wishes

Brannet Joseph Fernandes (29/02)
S/O Gretta and Bertie Fernandes Hosala

Wishing our beloved Brannet a very very happy birthday and many many more happy returns of the day.

Daddy, Mummy , realtives and friends. Barkur

This site is improving day after day. Political issues are avoided and clarity of issues maintained. It is a great achievement confining to a small town, you kept it active, there are many many sites but remain silent for days, weeks! We wish all the best to budding writers and POMs, and all who featured here. Pasting a photograph of the author, a good sign, to rewind or re-memorise our memory, because the band of all writers today at Barkur, were in cradles or primary schools, when I left the place? Questions and answers section, to be made regular affair, all the best friends, keep it up!

I am resident of Brahmavar. When I was surfing the net I found barkur.com. So I was really happy, because historical place came on site. I remember our college days (SMS Brahmavar); we used to do some work with our beloved principal Late Dr. B.V. Shetty.

VIJAY KUMAR JATHAN, P.O.BOX 1581 - MANAMA- BAHRAIN, 06/03/2004

Dear James: I really impressed to read your answers to Ms. Jessie D'Cruz's questions. I like your style and love your opinion. Keep up your good work.

We heard a story from Barkur - one purchased a piece of land and plans to construct a house there, first step to dig a well and lucky to have good water. Next building foundation laid for the new house and the work in progress. Another fellow next to  this plot, bigger in size, also plans to have much bigger bungalow, though water experts  directs 'X' spot to fetch more water, this man purposefully chooses the location just  10 meters away from the former. Of course the known and unknown economic sources of the latter, encourages them to go for larger and deeper well.

Now the situation is the first one, who almost finished his well, didn’t have water in his well. Today, Indian political scene is also like this - people changing their loyalties, every second day. They not  only cheating themselves and to the parties they enjoyed power and privileges in the  name of social work, also insult the electorate and playing with their emotions,  feelings and their right of choice. The richer one, the strong one, digs a larger and deeper well in the same plot and makes other to weep for little water!! Alas, we get disgusted with such wolves around us, I feel, that is why middle class, educated, don’t go for voting?

Sir, I am glad that Barkurians are finally being noticed and acknowledged for their achievements. I must admit that in the absence of Barkur.com , the same would be impossible. Best wishes to barkur.com

Raymond Suares, Kuwait ,04/03/2004

And the Oscar went to… Former Benoni farm girl Charlize Theron. The 28-year-old actress won best Oscar actress award for her portrayal  “ Monster:” movie. We are at Benoni small  town proud of her achievement. Congratulations and Best wishes from:

Sir, Barkur.com is a wonderful platform where barkurians minds can meet . I am glad that  you have created such a platform. Undoubtedly, there are countless other families who have stars in them . Let Barkurians know how they really are and be proud. This is in interest of Barkur community at large. There is something more I must share.

Mr. Russell Fernandes who studied in Milagres college came from Mumbai. It is to everybody's knowledge how difficult it is for Bombay bred children to adjust to Mangalore atmosphere and environment.

Nevertheless, he along with his sister who completed her B.Sc, B.Ed.,M ED St Anne's Mangalore with distinction, have flourished in the portals of barkur parish. Mr. Russell was one of the most prominent students of Milagres College which any Professor/ Principal should tell you. He won numerous awards for academic excellence and poetry. He won the 1St  prize in the District Level Poetry Competition Held under the auspices of Chethana Literary Assoc, Mangalore. His poetry have won him acclaim from every part of the country and around the world. He received nomination for The Young Man of The Year Award By the American Biographical Institute, USA. The reason why I mention this is that they came from Mumbai and conquered Dakshinna Kannada. !!! They are from Barkur and have built a new home in Hanehalli and BArkur must know this and take pride in them !!! With Best wishes

Raymond Suares , Kuwait, 01/03/2004

Why Mr. Raymond, you didn't mentioned the famous name REV.FR.GEORGE ANDRADE of Chickmagalore Diocese - known for Kannada Retreats, effective sermons and a great missionary in the vineyard of Jesus? He is the neighbour of Jr Fr Tony, ordained at Barkur some 30 years back..!A man should find a respectable place in POM column of barkuronline shortly, I feel...

Barkurgar, 01/03/2004

Thought provoking Questions... and to the point and bit more elaborate answers...wonderful segment....I truly salute Ms D'Cruz as well as Panel Members... Will send few of mine too....

Philiph Richard. 01/03/2004

Finally our request is answered to some extent: Raymond Suares has some Kudos to Andrade Family, finally, long overdue. Please note Barkur.com had featured a small but neat article on Benni Teacher and her family, the Matriarch of this Andrade family, the mother of Fr. Tony Andrade. We (Barkur.com) have asked you readers, ad nauseam, for details, thus we can write up an article on any one of you. Or you on your own can furnish the entire article, without any negative attacks. Please give us names, dates, accomplishments, contribution to Barkur, social works etc. One of the objectives of Barkur.com is to honor the contributions to Barkur, however, we can add any contribution to USA, Kuwait, Mangalore or to ones' own siblings, after all, all these originate from Barkur, and it's likely a neighbour Barkurian has been a beneficiary in one or other form. We even wrote, Fr. Andrade's left hand does not know what generosity his right hand is doing!

Hence, please, communicate. If you don't praise yourself who else? I logically assume, Fr. Tony, every time when he goes to India, goes with lots of dollars, things, toys, books, stationery, clothes, and brilliant ideas. Please send the details to Kishoo, and Barkuronline will feature any article to your satisfaction, send some pictures too. Kishoo, Archie, or Harry have no way of knowing the beauty of the roses in Brandavan today, because, they have not visited this Brandavan lately! We rely on you. Let's be realistic, please furnish data. That's all Kishoo is crying in the wilderness! Suares, you opened doors. Barkuronline is waiting! Thanks folks!

James Fernandes, USA,29/02/2004

We do appreciate Mr. Raymond's recognition of Andrades and DCostas of Barkur. It is a request to barkuronline to introduce other clans who are equally good or may be more famous in educational, social and commercial fields. Of course, your columns like POM, HOF,etc are the right steps in this direction. I heard the famous Almeidas of Halekody and Kachhur, DSilvas of Matpady, Picardos, Sequeiras, the famous Fernandes group, Buthellos and so on...the list hardly ends.......

Vincent D'Souza, 29/02/2004

Shobha is right. We have to pay attention to Jessie's questions. These are contemporary social issues, that affect our daily life. Folks, feel free to send your opinions or answers. There is no competition here. No one is gaining a paisa here. Loss may be!

There is nothing to gain or anything to lose for you to voice your constructive or positive contribution. (Anything negative, we may not publish here!) Voice your feelings, someone may benefit from it. Thank you. There are lots of material in a news paper. People read what they like, and skip what they don't like. Buffet: Pick what you want to eat, leave the rest as is. Help us please!

James Fernandes, USA, 28/02/2004

Sir. I would like to wish the Andrade family best wishes and God's Choicest Blessings for their wedding anniversary. The sons and daughters of erstwhile Mr. Peter Andrade have brought great name to Barkur and to the family. Late Mr. Peter Andrade was a stalwart and highly respected man of our times. His sons and daughters are now well accomplished in India and abroad. So are his grand daughters and grand sons. They have earned with great endeavor a name for themselves in every sphere of life.

Mr. Louis D'Costa who works here in Kuwait is one of those rare stars of Barkur  this family has produced. After completing his B.Com From Milagres college, he completed ICWA and MBA from NMIMS with merit in these grades. He is now working as Director-Finance in a large MNC in Kuwait. He also serves as Treasurer for Couples for Christ.

Fr. Tony Andrade has earned acclaim in the USA as one of the most revered priests that our village has produced. Mr. Ronny Andrade  himself is a well accomplished persona of Barker Especially in the Bio Medical Field. Mr. Russell Fernandez the great grandson of Mr. Peter Andrade has secured 8th  Rank in B.Com at the University of Mangalore Year .The only rank holder ever from Barkur in B.Com 2002, presently, employed with a top capital company in India. They are all the stars of the Andrade lineage and my close association with them has been a sense of pride that all Barkurians must share and partake. Cheers to the Andrade Family !!!!

Raymond Suares ,Kuwait, 28/02/2004

We have to think seriously about the question/answers of QA No.5 by Mrs. D'Cruz, Kuwait. If we don't pay much attention to this issue, definitely, we have to repent in future life. After all we need our family tree to grow...

Happy Anniversary

"CONGRATULATION AND BEST WISHES FOR THE 11TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. ( 23-2-2004)

Best wishes from:- Andrade Family from Barkur  and Fr. Tony Andrade and the Parishioners of St. Thomas the apostle church, USA , 23/02/2004

Dear Mr Serrao,

For your information, Mrs Quadros is now in Janatha Parivar, who also served as Panchayat President of Hanehalli Village. Also served as Member of Minority Cell, Catholic Sabha etc. Mr Shantarama Shetty was President of BJP Brahmmavar Block and now an active member, earlier he served as Taluk Panchayat Member and a popular businessman of Barkur.

Barkurgaar, 24/02/2004

It is a good suggestion to rotate the Pedruchi Chavi, highlighting a Ward at a time. The best solution to overcome losses if any. Mr Furtado is confident or may be very possessive of his ward and its strengths. Why others lagging behind and wait, I propose next issue may of Kachhur-gars, be assured of my contribution and support. I am also happy our people also star-makers in Bollywood... Congratulations!! Thank you for very regular inputs in all Sections. With Best Wishes,

Philiph Richard. 24/02/2004

Sir, Barkur is a wonderful village to live in . Can you tell me as to which party is Mrs. Euguine Quadros, and Mr. Shantaram Shetty contesting for Lok sabha election/ assembly elections. I heard a lot about their rise to such a position in political as well as local politics. I am curious to know about their political future. I wish them all the very best in their endeavour. May they bring name to Barkur. I also liked your comments of that amazon forest and pedruchi chavi programme.
