Dear Archie,
Just want to THANK YOU sincerely for that wonderful write up of my
father Mr Baptist D'Souza in the column of personality of the month.
Our father, a hardworking, sincere and simple person spent a lifetime
of hardship to see us through. He has been a role model to the people
of our small Barkur town and ofcourse to our own Nagarmut. He richly
deserves this honour. While I salute my dear pappa for what he has
been to us, I thank all those who are involved in the work of this
website barkuronline.com for keeping us close to each other with the
news of our native place. May God bless everyone of you abundantly.
With warm regards,

Hello Kishoo,
I am enclosing a brief summary of our recently started "VILAGE TO
COLLEGE FOUNDATION" in Barkur which is working so far quite well. I
understand there is some concern among students regarding the
procedures involved in applying for scholarships. I have therefore
enclosed a brief summary and rationale for starting the program in
Barkur and the simple method involved in applying for the small
scholarships. I hope local community will encourage to grow this
activity in coming years. I deeply appreciate kind help I received
from Fr Benjamin DeSouza and Fr.Sylvestor DeSouza in recruiting in the
past several deserving students. I hope to receive similar help from
current Parish Priest, local School teachers and Principals as well.
I of course would like to thank you and your volunteer staff of
Barkuronline for its continued efforts in communicating and informing
various ongoing topics regularly to our kind Citizens of Barkur living
locally and abroad. I hope the project I started recently with my
genuine great love towards Barkur will become helpful to a few
deserving students in coming years. Thank you for posting the
information.

The rarest and greatest plus point in every known leader is 'he
recognise the follower's talents'- a pleasant handsome personality Mr.
Batti Souz, you deserve all that is mentioned, in your honor! 'Like
father like son' it is said and Harry Souz his son, following his
proud father's steps - all the best!!

There was also a time the Lavad's were the subjects for ridicule and
many were the rejected lot, for they spoiled the functions of many a
households. Of course liquor played / playing an important role, but
at times, for many, functions at other's place was a platform to score
personal grudges. The lavad too taking sides and adding fuel to the
fire, must read about MR. BAPTIST D'SOUZA and pick a lesson or two to
stand near him, to be like him very difficult. Congratulations!

Dear Kishoo De Barkur and the team of barkuronline.com,
I am glad you chose Baptist D'Souza as the P.O.M. for the month of
October. Yes indeed he worked very hard for the good of our community
and reached out to the needs of all people irrespective of their
religion or cast. He has seen me growing up in my beautiful Nagrmutta
village and he was a great source of inspiration and encouragement
durning my Seminary days and now in my priestly life. May God bless
him with good health and peace of mind. I think he is the only
surviving famous "Lavad or Gurkar" of our Barkur church.

Dear friends,
Its a good Kannada article from Vijay Suvarna. This article gives
full details about gulf workers & bad work conditions. I can imagine
now. Anyway thanks Vijay Suvarna for giving this article.

Vijay Suvarna's eye
opening article on life in Gulf a must read for youth, aspiring to
move to Gulf Countries. All is not well, we read daily in Papers, but
Gulf has given solace to many Manglorens and helped to improve
economic condition. He or She is clever - who saves his / her earning
for future but not the one opt for show-off! Thanks Mr Suvarna, we
need such educative eye openers frequently.

Why St Bartholomeo's name, Mr Barnes? Better the new Church Hall to
be known after any donor or his nominee, who is ready to bear the
cost. This is the practice in these days! Any comments....?
M.M.Alvares,
05/10/2004
At the very outset, the feelings and choice to name the Hall after
Apostle is welcome. I feel it have two great impacts: The legend of
Apostles visit be preserved for future - as no serious effort not made
by Barkurians in particular and all of us in general. Secondly, in the
fast changing socio-religious sentiments / euphoria, in all other
communities, we as a Community can answer those who brand us as
foreigners - in a meaningful way, by not hurting anyone's emotions.

The Pedruchi Chavi Sept. 04 issue reached us and as expected it has
come out very attractive. Pius J. D'Souza and his friends in UAE,
deserve praises for compiling the book with many colourful pages. The
articles by Nelson, Naveen, Pius etc gave a broad glimpse of life in
Dubai,
so also the introduction of big names in social, religious and
literary work in UAE, originated from Barkur. From the regular's -
contents are good, specially that the news of Church Hall work took
off, in the hands of new Vicar! All the very best to Editor Mr. Eric
Soans and his new team, keep the good work going, with same spirits.

suggestion - name it after ST.BARTHOLOMEW, the Apostle.

Could you please clarify on an urgent basis: 1) When will be the
parish Feast of Barkur i.e 14 - 15th of Dec or 21 - 22nd Dec 04? 2)
The Bridge will be repaired and open for use by that time? 3) When the
Exposition of St. Francis Xavier's body at Goa
starts? We are planning our holidays, during this time. Thanks and
regards,
