Interact Club of National High School, Barkur
The installation ceremony of Ineract Club of
National High School was held recently. The function was presided
over by the Rotary President Rtn. K. Jayaram Shetty. Mr
Shankarnarayan Aithal, Principal and Rtn. N Bhajraj Shetty were
the guests.
After a brief introductory message from Rtn. Seetharam (Interact
Chairman) the Oath taking ceremony was led by the Rotary
President. The newly elected Interact President Mr Mohiddin
introduced the office bearers to the gathering. The secretary Mr
Harshith and Miss Usha conducted the proceedings.
Rotary Secretary Rtn. Ananda Shetty and P N Sunkada were the
special invitees.

Sudhakar Rao selected for the Udupi District level best teacher
award
Barkuronline.com is happy that the Graduate Head Master of
National Higher Primary School, Hanehalli, Barkur is been selected
for the Best Teacher Award for the current year.
Rtn.
Sudhakar Rao, who got the "Jana Mechida Shikshaka" award
during the year 2001 got this prestigious award which was bestowed
upon him during the district level programme on 5th
September, on teacher's day, at Udupi.
The proud
son of Barkur, Rtn. Sudhakar Rao is also the elected director of
Teacher's Co-operative Bank, Udupi and is serving in many social
organisations. He is the founder secretary of Rotary, Barkur and
served as the "Pulse Polio Chairman" and serving the Rotary as its
Club Service Director this year. He is an asset to Barkur and is
recognised as the best "programme co-ordinator" in and around
Barkur.
He joined
the teaching profession as "Hindi Pundit" in Mandarthi and in the
year 1983 he was selected for the post of Graduate head Master for
the
National Higher Primary School, Hanehalli. Among other subjects he
is also teaching English. Recently the Ladies Volley Ball Team of
the school got the Karnataka State Level Trophy which showcases
his capacity.
Even though
he was serving as H.M. in Hanehalli school he was elected as the
president of "Parent Teachers’ Association" in "Mary
knoll Higher Primary School" and happily accepted this post and
served to the best of his capacity. It is this quality of him that
helped him to get elected him as the Director of Teacher's
Co-operative Bank and now he has rightly secured this "Best
Teacher Award".
Born on 4th
February 1947 in Barkur got married to Asha S. Rao and is
having three daughters Shwetha, Geetha and Anvitha. At this happy
occasion we congratulate him and wish him every success in his
future endeavors.

from Barkur now residing in New Jersey ,USA) and Son in Law
Roshan D’Mello ( New Jersey,USA) are proud parents of a bay
girl born on August 13th 2004
in
New Jersey ,USA. They have named the baby SHERYL RENISHA
D'MELLO.
INSTALLATION OF "SHADADHARA" AT BARKUR
Shree Brahmalinga Veerabhadra Shree Durga Parameshwari Temple
renovation committee has planned the renovation of "Garbhagudi"
and the "Shadadhara" was installed on 27th August
during a religious ceremony which was attended by a large number
of people. The temple which was constructed about 700 years ago is
being repaired in total and the temple is the "Moola Devasthana"
of Padmashali community.
Before installing the Image of God in the "Garbhagudi",
"Shadadhara" has to be planted which should be filled by
"Navarathnas" and gold.
Sri Rama Shettigar, Hon. President of the renovation committee,
President Dr Gautham, Sri H V Gopal, Sri S. Srinivas Shettigar,
Building committee President Mr. Srinivas Shettigar, Sri
Vedamoorthy Chandrashekar Adiga were present during the religious
ceremony .

Vivekananda Center
honors students
The
students who scored distinction in the latest annual examinations
were honoured by Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Barkur in
association with Shanthivana Trust (Regd.), Dharmasthala. The
teachers who were retired during the year 2004 were also honoured
during this occasion.
The programme was presided over by Sri Shankarnarayan Aithal and
Sri B. Seetharama Shetty and Rtn. K Jayaram Shetty were the guests
and in their message they praised the role of the associations and
the encouragement they are offering to the students. Mr Ashok
Poojary welcomed the gathering Mr Bhasker Kotian proposed vote of
thanks, Mr Rama Bhat, Sajangadde was the master of ceremony.

Busses halted
at Barkur
National
ITI and
National Pre University College students observed a strike
recently against the Bus Ticket price hike and stating this reason
some Buses stopped coming to Barkur. So some Busses were halted by
students near Saibarakatte.
‘As such there is gloom over Barkur due to the damaged and closed
bridge and this is worsened by the stopping of the some bus
services further aggravating the situation’ stated the students
and stopped the Busses from morning 9 to 1.30 in the afternoon.
Brahmavar Circle Inspector Vidyashankar arrived and spoke with Bus
Owners and Student leaders to solve the problem.
Free medical Camp at Primary Health Centre, Barkur
I C Y M, Barkur in collaberation with Rotary Club, Barkur and
Goretti Hospital, Kallianpur orgnised "Free medical check up and
treatment camp" at Primay Health Centre, Barkur.
Dr (Mrs) Sharada and Dr Gowtham along with Dr Inday successfully
conducted the health check up of 145 patients and with the help of
Goretti Hospital Officials disitrbuted free medicine to the needy.
E.C.G and blood tests were conducted for the needy people and for
those who require additional medical treatment, green cards were
issued for further treatment.
Rotary predident, Rtn K Jayaram Shetty welcomed the gathering and
ICYM president Miss Sabitha Mascarenhas proposed vote of thanks
and Rtn Sudhakar Rao was the master of ceremony.
Free
Medical Camp at Kavadi
Rotary Grameena Dala, Rotary Club Barkur, I C Y M, Barkur and
Goretti Hospital, Kallianpur jointly conducted a free medical
camp at Kavadi Village near Barkur.
The camp was inaugurated by Rev Fr Remigious Aranha, Parish Priest
of Barkur and in his message he praised the role of social
organisations in creating this type of awareness camps at rural
places and for making the health check up by the qualified doctors
and requested the people to take the full benefits of such camps.
Dr R N Bhat, Cardiologist, Dr (Mrs) Sharada and Dr Inday were
present for this medical camp and succssfully treated more than
175 people and free medicine was distributed to the needy people.
The local people expressed their satisfaction and requested to
conduct such camps every year. Green cards were issued for the
people who need further treatement at Goretti Hospital.

ICYM, Barkur bags Vice President's Post in Udupi District Central
Council
As per the notification issued by the Bishop of Mangalore, Rt Rev
Dr A P D'Souza, a separate ICYM Central Council was formed for
Udupi District. The election of the office bearers was held at Don
Bosco Club, Udupi and the new nominated Director Rev. Fr Peter
Pinto and the Director Rev Fr. Elias Mascarenhas, the ex president
of Central Council Mr. Herald D'Souza were present for the
historical inaugural session.
Miss Sabitha Mascarenhas,
President of Barkur unit was elected as the founder vice
president. Barkur unit won this prestigious place and the Parish
Priest Rev Fr Remigious Aranha along with the parishioners has
expressed his happiness and congratulated the youth of Barkur for
achieving this prestigious post.
