Blood Donation Camp at Barkur

In association with Indian Red Cross and Government Hospital, Udupi all major associations of Barkur, joined together for a mega Blood Donation

Camp, first of its kind in Barkur. The camp which was held at Rukmini Shedthi Memorial Government College, Barkur was inaugurated by Sri Murulidhar, Tahasildar of Udupi Taluk.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Mr V L Roche and Sri Rajshekar Hebbar, Principal of the college, Mr Shankarnarayan Aithal, Principal, NPUC, Sri Dinakar Tolar, Principal, NITI, Sri Srinivas Raj, Circle Inspector, Sri Ganesha Pai, NSS Director and Sri Sharath Kumar, M.D., District Hospital, Udupi were the guests.

A large number of students, local youth and public donated their blood for the noble cause and made the event a success.

Apart from ICYM, Barkur other organisations took part in this camp include Mogaveera Youth Association, Billava Seva Sangha, Navodaya Yuvaka Sangha, Santhekattte Criketers, Bennekudru friends, Atula Yuvaka Mandala.

Aids Awareness Camp At Barkur

The Rotary Club of Barkur and I C Y M, Barkur , jointly organized AIDS Awareness Camp at Barkur. The programme was inaugurated at National Pre University College ground by Sri Shankarnarayan Aithal, Principal, NPUC, Barkur.

The students from NJC, Barkur, Maryknoll High School Barkur, Vidyesha Vidhyamanya English Medium School, Heradi,  Government High School, Kavadi and Sri Vani High School, Nadoor took part in the rally, which after the inauguration at NJC grounds went through the main roads of Barkur and concluded at Maryknoll High School.

An attractive programme was organised by the students of the participating schools, which included skits, dances and songs.

Dr A Ramachandra Bayari, TB and AIDS Controlling Officer of Udupi District narrated the problems faced by the people of Udupi District  which was one of the districts of Karnataka State notified as RED by the Government of India. He asked the participants to be alert and spread the message through all the available media and help the society in coming out of this problem.

Dr Gowtham  of the Primary Health Hospital Barkur was  present during the occasion. Rtn. Seetharam, Interact Chairman, Rtn K Jayaram Shetty, President of Rotary Club were also present.

Bharathiya Seva Dal

Bharathiya Seva Dal National Seminar was held in Barkur. Various programmes were organised including talks, attractive march fast and ground activities by the participant students.

Mr Bhujanga Shetty was the force behind the Bharathiya Seva Dal, Udupi District unit and organised the show. Rtn. Bhojaraj Shetty was present along with other guests.

Makkala Sahithya Sammelana

Makkala Sahithya Sammelana, - the Fifth Children’s Literary Convention was held at National Pre University College, (NPUC) Barkur on 8th and 9th January 2005 . The two days programme was inaugurated by Dr. M. Mohan Alva, President, Alvas Educational Foundation, Moodbidri, at the specially designed and decorated ‘Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Sahithya Vedike’ for the occasion. Over 300 students from 15 different high schools from Udupi Taluk participated in the seminar in its fifth successive year, was conducted by Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center, Barkur in association with Shanthivana Trust, Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala, Shri Ramakrishna Ashram, Belgaum and Mangalore,  and NPUC , Barkur.

“It is the duty of all the parents and teachers to provide cultural education to the children which helps to build a strong future generation” said Dr. Alva in his inaugural address.

10th standard student of Sharada High School, Cherkadi, Chiranjivi Sudharma Soorya presided over the literary convention. Chief guest of the inaugural function, Mr. Seethanadi Vitthal Shetty, Physical Education Inspector of District Public Education Department, released a collection of poems written by the budding poets. Mr. B. Seetharama Tholpaditthaya, Secretary, Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Shanthivana Trust,  Mr. K. Shankaranarayan Aithal , Principal , NPUC, Industrialist Mr. Shrinivasa Shettigar were present for the inaugural ceremony.

Statle Level Throw Ball Tournament prize winning students from  B. M. M. High School , Kooradi were honoured during this occasion. Chi. Harshith Sajangadde  welcomed the gathering and Kumari Prajna proposed the vote of thanks. Lecturer Mr. B. Ramabhat Sajangadde compered the proceedings.

A Bala Kavi Goshti (Self written poetry recital by young poets) was held after the inauguration in which 23 ‘balakavi’ and ‘kavayithri’s read their poems. Kumari Shashikala from Rajathadri Shrivani High School, Nadoor, presided over the ‘goshti’ and Mr. Narendra Kumar, Kota, teacher at Kota Viveka Girls High School was the moderator.  Various cultural programmes like ‘Sugama Sangeetha’ and ‘ekapathrabhinaya’ were presented at the evening of the first day of the seminar.

Various ‘Sahithya Goshti’s were held at the second day on various topics conducted by the many resource people from all over Karnataka. The La Crème De La Crème of their fields presented their views on different literature types and children.

A quiz competition for the participants was jointly conducted by Chiranjivi  Harshith Sajangadde and Chiranjivi  Shrinivasa Padre .

The valedictory function was held at 0245 pm.  Chiranjivi Sudharma Soorya delivered the Presidential address as the president of the literary convention. Mr. C. U. Chandrashekhara Holla, President, Kannada Sahithya Parishad, Udupi District gave the valedictory speech. Mr. B. Seetharama Shetty, retired Principal and the correspondent of NPUC, distributed the certificates. Various people who worked behind the curtains and were instrumental in the success of the convention were presented with mementos.

The two days programme was aptly and ably conducted by Chiranjivi Harshith Sajangadde, Chiranjivi Bharath, Kumari Deepika Joshi, and Kumari Prajna of Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center, Barkur.

Barkur Kambala

Barkur Kambala which was held recently at Hanehalli  kambalagadde was inaugurated by Sri Rajashekara Sindhanoor, MLA from Shiggav (Haveri Taluk). Mr. Shantharam Shetty and other local leaders were present during the inaugural ceremony. The kambala competition created a lot of joy and festive mood in the local area and people in large number  participated in the race.
