Taluk Level Volley Ball tournament

Taluk Level Volley Ball tournament was held at National Pre University College sports ground at  Barkur recently and Poorna Prajna Pre University College, Udupi emerged as the group champions.

PPC defeated the Viveka PU College, Kota in boys finals and the PPC girls won over the NJC girls in the finals.

Shrinivasa  and Suprada M of PPC were the Best Smasher and Best Lifter respectively where as Dayananda of Viveka, Kota bagged the Best All-rounder. Nisha and Kavya from PPC got Best Smasher and Best Lifter in girls group and Priyanaka from NJC Barkur lifted the Best All-rounder award.

N.Bhojaraja Shetty , Asst. Governor, Rotary District 3180 distributed the prizes and trophies to the winners and Jayarama Shetty, President, Former Students Association inaugurated the tournament.

Krishnamoorthi Bhat, Principal,NPUC, Chandra Shekhara Shetty, President, Grama Panchayath, Hanehalli, B.Seetharama Shetty, Retired Principal, NPUC, Vasantha Shetty, Umesh Shetty, R.R. Bhandi and others were present.

Manoj Sequeira of Barkur, an ardent cricket-lover, was in the thick of action with his family at the Wanderers, Johannesburg on Monday, September 24. He said it was a thrilling occasion, an opportunity of a lifetime and a fantastic experience to have been

in the action-filled ambience of the final of the Twenty20 Cup tournament.

He has sent us a large collection of pictures clicked in Johannesburg, where history was created by Dhoni's boys.

Ganesha immersion at Barkur

The Lord Ganesha Idol which was kept at Shri Pattabhiramachandra Temple Barkur on the Gowri Ganesha Chaturthi was immersed in Kotekeri today. The procession took off at 5.30 pm with hundreds of devotees and many people dressed as various charachters from the Puranas. The Mangala Moorthi was kept on the decorated truck sponsored by Shrinivasa Shettigaar of Shettigaar Industries, Ranganakeri. B. Shantharama Shetty, Shrinivasa Shettigaar, Bhandari, Ashwin Kamath, Rajesh Kamath and many others helped the celebrations to be a grand success.

Ganesha Chathurthi at Barkur

According to the ancient scriptures, Lord Ganesha is a God who brings happiness to all worlds, who destroyed the demon Gajasura, and is immortal, merciful, and all-forgiving.  He is also said to bestow all devotees with a well-disposed mind.

Lord Ganesha at Ramamandira

This time around in Barkur, Ganesh Chaturthi which happens to be the birthday of Lord Ganesha, the son of Shiva and Parvati, and the God of wisdom and prosperity, is being celebrated in fervor as its been done from many years.

Mangalamoorthi at Heradi by Athula Yuvaka Mandala

The huge idols of Ganesha, as seen above, have been taken from the place where it is sculpted by the shilpakar (sculpture)  are placed at Pattabhi Ramachandra Temple, popularly known asRamamandira in Car Street and at Smt Rukmini Shdethi Memorial National Primary School at Heradi where the pooja ceremony or the puja archane is performed in a traditional manner.

The main Idol will be kept for adoration at Ramamandira for 5 days and then will be immersed at Kotekeri pond near Panchalingeshwara temple and the Idol at Heradi will be immersed in Choulikeri Lake after 3 days.

 All our visitors and well wishers are wished a happy Ganesh Chaturthi, with a prayer to Lord Ganesha to bless all his devotees and bring peace and joy to our planet ‘Earth

Obituary

Roque Sequeira (76), son of the late Leo Sequeira and brother of the late Agnes, Mildred, the late Simon, Matilda Joyce (retired head teacher, Udupi), Divine and Dr Paul,  passed away on September 14, 2007.

Funeral cortege leaves residence for St Peter Church, Barkur at 3-30 pm on Saturday, September 15.

Dr Joseph Gonsalves, new Principal of SJEC, Mangalore

Dr.Joseph Gonsalves of Barkur origin is the new Principal of St. Joseph's Engineering College in Mangalore.

Dr.Joseph, son of Mr.Dominic Gonsalves (popularly known as Dumga Gosal) of Bennekudru, has M.Tech and Ph.D degrees from IIT, Madras has served as the Head Of Mechanical Engineering at Malnad College of Engineering (MCE) in Hassan, Karnataka, for many years. His father and other brothers are settled in Hassan with flourishing business.

Team barkuronline.com takes this opportunity to congratulate Dr.Joseph on his new assignment and wishes him all success in all his endeavors.

Obituary

Raymond D' Almeida, (Nagar Mutt, Barkur)  aged 84 years, H/O Irene D'Almeida, Father of Leslie/Clara, Lancy/Patricia and Praveen/Jessie, Grand father of Lester, Priyal, Shreyal, Prajwal, Alisha and Alita , passed away on 3rd September, 2007 at residence at Nagarmutt, Barkur after a brief illness.

Funeral cortege leaves residence at 2.30 is the afternoon to St.Peter's Church for mass and burial at 3.00 pm on Friday, 7th September.

Career Advancement Programme

One day seminar was organized at Souharda, the Parish Auditorium on Sunday 2nd September by Parish Council and ICYM Barkur and the CAP Cell of CODP Mangalore. Students from 10th standard, Pre University  and University level along with their parents took part in the seminar.

The seminar was inaugurated by Fr.Remigeous Aranha by lighting the lamp. Fr.Onil D'Souza, Wilson D'Souza and Francis D'Souza from CODP were the resource persons for the seminar encouraged the students to study hard and select their courses wisely  showing various opportunities in government sectors, job opportunities and advised parents on different careers their children can follow.

They used multimedia to drive their points to the participants and the seminar was well attended and appreciated by all.

Herald D'Souza, Vice President of Parish Council welcomed the gathering. Irene Pais, Secretary, Parish Council, Dr.Manoj D'Lima, President, ICYM, Gerald Gonsalves, CAP Cell Representative for Barkur were present at the occasion.

Information Camp on Revenue Department

Revenue Department Information Camp was held at Souharda, the parish hall of St.Peter’s chuch Barkur jointly oragnised by Rotary Clubs of Barkur and Brahmavar, Catholic Sabha, ICYM, and Women’s Association , Barkur units on 19th August afternoon.

Rev. Fr.Remigeous Aranha , Parish Priest presided over the function, while its inaugurated by Kota Shrinivasa Poojari, Member, Jilla Panchayath, Udupi District. B. Shantharama Shetty, President, Barkur Grama Panchayath was the chief guest.

K.Muralidhar, Tahasildar, Karkala District, Dr.B.Udayakumar Shetty, Tahasildar, Udupi District, K.Suresh, Special Tahasildar, Brahmavar amd Shankara Poojari, Asst.Tahasildar, Nada Kacheri, Kota were the resource persons for the camp provided information on the various government schemes and facilities and encouraged people to get the maximum benefits of these.

Applications were received from the eligible citizens for various schemes on the spot and the participating Tahasildaars assured that these applications will be processed at the earliest and also promised that the beneficiaries will be distributed with facilities at the same location at a later  date, that they need not follow them up at Udupi.

More than 500 people gathered for the function and most of them were happy to attend such function which was surely the first of its kind in the region and were thankful for the oragnisers for such a wonderful programme. 

Gerald Gonsalves, President Rotary Club, Brahmavar welcomed the gathering and Rathnakar Shetty, President , Rotary Club, Barkur greeted the guests with flowers. Herald D'Souza, Vice President, Parish Council, Barkur proposed the vote of thanks. Dr.Manoj D'Lima President ICYM Barkur, Alice D'Souza, President, Women's Association, John Cardoza, President, Catholic Sabha, Barkur Unit were present on the stage. Sudhakar Rao of Barkur Rotary Club and Dolphy D'Lima jointly conducted the proceedings.
