Youth Seminar at Barkur
A one day seminar of Kallainpur Vardo youngsters was organized by
ICYM Barkur at Souharda, the parish hall. Professor Stevan
Quadros , Permude and Geo Agrar were the resource persons and they
trained the youth on ‘Effective Leadership’ and ‘Personality
Development’.
About 125 youngsters from the Kallianpur varado parishes attended
the seminar which was inaugurated by Rev.Fr. R.C.M Aranha, Parish
Priest. Professor Quadros and Geo kept the youngsters engaged
through out the day with lots of group discussions, games , dances
and interacted with the youth driving home their points.
The valedictory function ib the evening was presided over by
Rev.Fr. Peter Pinto, Director , ICYM Central council and Rev. Fr.
Victor D’Souza, Director, ICYM, Kallianpur Varado was the chief
guest. Herald D’Souza, Vice President, Parish Council, and
Noreen Lobo, animator of ICYM Barkur unit, Ashwin Roche,
President, ICYM, Kallanpur Varado, Dr.Manoj D’Lima, President,
ICYM, Barkur and Vice President, ICYM, Kallainpur Varado were
present on the stage.
Sumptuous breakfast , lunch and evening tea was provided by the
hosts ICYM Barkur unit. Dr. Manoj D’Lima proposed the vote of
thanks.

Moodahadu in news for a different reason
Visitors of barkuronline.com require no introduction to
Dr.Gabriel Fernandes. He
is featured as our POM long back and is s staunch supporter of
this website. He runs his Village to College foundation and its
Scholarship drive alone on his own steam just with a sole purpose
of educating the needy students from rural area. We came across
few details about him which were unknown to us and are impressive
for a boy from a forgotten remote village of Moodahadu, Barkur and

Another New Bridge At Barkur
Foundation stone laid for yet another bridge at Barkur, this time
its connecting Bennekudru to Moodahadu thus clearing a
thoroughfare between Barkur and Sasthan. The foundation stone was
laid by Jayaprakash Hegde, MLA and a religious ritual also
performed in presence of local dignitaries.
This new Bridge will be constructed by Gamen India in contract
with Roads Development department of PWD at a cost o Rs.1.5 crore
and will be opened to the public by the end of May 2008. The whole
length of the road from Kalluchappara , Barkur to NH 17 at Sasthan
via Sarabidi Kadu –Bennekudru-Moodadhadu is taken over by the PWD
. The authorities have promised to change this stretch into fully
developed road within a year.

Tuvvi Tuvvi , the
only one of a kind show at Barkur.
The Expressions
, a name synonymous with quality entertainment ventures in and
around Barkur, went into hibernation for a while is all geared up
once again for what its best known for, another unique venture.
Tuvvi Tuvvi a unique show by little children which will
mesmerize the adults too will be presented by the group on 4th
November at Barkur at Souharda, the parish hall of
Barkur.
A group of 15
specially trained talented children from Mangalore who have
performed all around Mangalore and also in Mumbai, Karwaar and
Goa where they were well appreciated will sing, dance and present
skits all by themselves for 2 hours without stop. The show
coincides with the First Holy Communion day at Barkur church and
marks the forthcoming children’s day on 14th November.
The organizers are
expecting a packed auditorium as this is the first of its kind of
a show around the area which will start on dot at 6.30 p.m. with
a small introductory session and will end at 9 p.m. sharp.

SPA, Mumbai to
celebrate 2008 Parish Feast
St.Peter’s
Association (Barkur) Mumbai a prominent association of Christian
Barkurians residing at Mumbai has come forward to be the
traditional Pirjenth for the annual Parish Feast of
St.Peter’s Church Barkur in the year 2008.
The general body
meeting of the parishioners with an exclusive agenda of the Parish
Feast , or ‘Festhacho Zhoonth’ as it was popularly known
was held on 14th October after the mass to agree on the
dates for the Parish feast for this year and to decide or select
the Pirjenth for the next year.
The annual feast
will be held on 18th and 19th of December
this year and Mrs.Eugine and Mr.Roque Quadros and family of
Hanehalli will be the Pirjenths or the main sponsors of
this year. It’s a tradition among the Barkurians to come forward
as the Pirjenths of the Parish Feast and and celebrate the
feast in a grand way as a gesture of gratitude for the blessings
received from the Patron Saint.
St.Peter’s
Association (Barkur) Mumbai which is been in the service of
Barkurians residing at Mumbai for more than two decades now is
known for its contributions for the worthy causes at Barkur like
donating a classroom to the Smt.Rukmini Shedthi Memorial
Government First Grade College , Uniforms and English Teacher at
Maryknoll Higher Primary School and donating the chairs for
Souharda, the recently inaugurated parish hall at Barkur.
Jolvin Furtado an
office bearer of SPA Mumbai took the oath as a repersenatative of
SPA from Parish Priest Rev.Fr.Remigeous Aranha.

is the new President of Yadthadi
Harish Kotian of Barkur won the elections and taken over as the
new President of Yadthadi Grama Panchayath. Harish contetsted the
elections as an independent candidate and came out with flying
colors.

Gretta Lewis from Barkur origin, currently residing at Saligrama
won at the Saligrama Town Municipal elections. An independent
candidate backed by Jayaprakash Hegde, MLA, Gretta Lewis took over
the opponents on a wide margin.
Wife of ace photographer Stephen Lewis, Gretta is the daughter of
Late Fredrick Andrade and Faustine Andrade of Nagermutt. She has
served as the President of Inner Wheel Of Saligrama and was the
Vice President of 'The Expressions' a cultural association.
7 BJP and 2 Congress and 5 JP Hegde supported independent
candidates won at the Saligrama Town Municipal Elections.
