Q ; For the last many years the development of Barkur was not up to the expectation of the people specially regarding the fulfillment of the long pending demands of the people to quote some.

(a) Ring road connecting Kachur bus stand to Halekody road

(b) Road connecting kachur to Nagarmutt via Hosala bail

(c) Road to Jeppukali Kudru .       Can you please give the latest position regarding the above mentioned road projects?

A; Yes as you have rightly observed, all the three road projects have been delayed for the various reasons. But during the last year we have made remarkable progress and we hope to complete the same at the earliest.

The first road is very important regarding the development of Barkur since it is connecting the main road to Halekody road junction where by the areas of Halekody ,Kachur, santheguddee, Bennekudru  will be getting benefit out of this project, we have met the M.P. Mr. Vinay Kumar Sorake and he has promised to complete this road out of his M.P grant before the end of this financial year.

Regarding the road connecting to Nagarmutt area, the project was planned earlier under D.C.'s Apna Karavali project and because of the non co-operation of some people, who have refused to donate land for the purpose of formation of the road, it was stopped after constructing about 250-300meteres. Now if the beneficiaries of the proposed plan are able to procure the required land the project may be taken up. In the mean time we have contacted the Rajya Sabha member Mr. Oscar Fernandes and the benefit of this road, which will help the farmers to carry their produce to the market and will help as barrier to the salt water which is entering the farm land. More over this is a mega project costing more than 6 to 7 lakhs ,we need the help  of all the depts.

Yes for the jeppukali kudru road we have reserved some funds  and have contacted the local M.L.A. for alloting funds under his local area development fund and we are confident of getting his help for this project.

Q; Is there any plan of putting tar to the existing mud road?

A; As of now there are three roads twhich needs to put tar. the first one is heradi junction to hosala school and extension to river bank, for the purpose of putting tar to this road we have already reserved funds and hopefully the project will be completed before March 2003.Also about putting the tar to Halekody road we have requested the Zilla Panchayat member  for help.

Q; Is there any plans of developing Barkur, as a tourist spot ?

A; About the development of Barkur and putting Barkur on the tourist map we have already had discussions with local M.P. and M.L.A and with archeological department and the necessary steps will be taken very shortly.

Q : Can you please tell us your plans about cleaning ponds (keres),  extending drinking water facility and proper utilisation of rain water for irrigation purposes ?

A : You might be knowing that cleaning of Chowlikere is being done with the involvement of Bharathiya Vikas Trust and Zilla      Panchayath. 50% of the work is already completed and the      remaining work will be completed in the forthcoming season. We have already taken up the matter with regard to cleaning the other  important ponds with proper departments.   With regard to extension of drinking water facility for the remaining areas of Hosala village , we have already obtained  sanction for one more open well and have recently finalized    the spot. The same will be connected to the overhead tank constructed near the Hosala School and the drinking water system   will be extended to needy area.

We are happy to inform you that we have got sanction for the      long pending Nagarmutt Vented Dam cum foot bridge project costing   about 50.00 lakhs. This will help us to better utilise the rain  water for irrigation purposes.

Q : Is there any progress towards providing street lights to interior roads of Barkur ?

A : There was a demand from the people of Hosala and Halekody for providing street lights and we have worked out a plan to provide  street lights from Heradi bus-stand to Nagarmutt road and the same  was sanctiond by K.P.T.C.L. (earlier called as K E B). We have already deposited the margin money from the Panchayath and the  project will be completed at the earliest. Regarding halekody road,  we will draw a plan soon.
