Lancer and Shaila: We would like to congratulate you on behalf of "barkur.com" on your splendid performance as the president of Catholic Credit Co-op Society Ltd. As its founder president you turned  the  dream of the local people, into  a  reality. At this juncture we would like to have your views on the following  questions for the sake of our viewers on "barkur.com" site.

Q: What  prompted  you  for  having thought of starting a society by name "Catholic Credit Co-op. Society Ltd" in Brahmavar.

A: Yes, the idea was there in  our  mind  way back in 1990, but could not  take a shape. We were planning to open a  bank with Kundapur as its center  but could not implement the idea for one or other reasons. In the year 1996  when Fr. Mark D'Sa was the Parish Priest of Kota we had arranged a meeting at Kota and involved all the  like  minded  people  from Barkur, Brahmavar,    Sastan and Kota. Mr. Valerian Rodrigues,  Asst. Registrar for Societies was  asked to give us some ideas. The  meeting  was a turning point and leaders present during the  meeting  were prepared to collect the required amount  of  capital  (Minimum 3 lakhs with 300 members).  The  results  were  very  positive  and the leaders could collect more than 5 lakhs rupees (with 700     members)   as  initial  capital  within  stipulated  period and laid solid foundation to  the society.  The Society was inaugurated on 15th July 1997 at Holy Family  Complex, Brahmavar.

Q: Have  you got any plans to convert the society into a Bank in the near future. ?

A : At present  we are having a capital base of Rs. 16.00 lakhs and we are trying to collect more capital. Once we reach the capital base of Rs. 25.00  lakhs with 1500 members we can  apply  to  R B I  for  conversion  of  the society  into a Bank. With steady growth we hope to reach this target very  soon.

Q : Can  you  please brief about the progress of Sastan Branch and are you  having any idea of opening some more branches ?

A : Sastan branch is  making  steady progress.  Initially  we can't expect profit   we have to improve our clientele base first and then automatically  business  will  grow.  We are  thankful  to  Late  Mr. John Furtado,  Director from Sastan who was instrumental in the speedy growth  of our  society and helped us a lot. We  pay our respcts to him and may the Lord give him eternal peace. We are  having  plans to open our branches in Barkur and Kolalagiri in the near future.

Q: Is there a plan to shift the office to owned premises from the present rented premises?

A : Of  cource  we  are having  this idea of shifting our office to our own premises. But there are many problems.  We  are  searching for a centrally located premise in Brahmavar. As soon as we get one we will move on to it.

Q: Are you not facing stiff competition from other financial institutions and what are your plans to overcome this crisis situation ?

Dedicated Staff members

A: Our staff members  are  very  polite  and are equipped with competitive knowledge and we are giving quality training  to them,  which will help us to overcome  the difficulties.  Imaginative administration will definitely keep us ahead of others.  We are having many attractive schemes for construction of residential houses and self-employment. So we are hopeful of successfully absorbing the present situation. We are having  a  plan  to  help  the  poor and unemployed youth, and for this  purpose we are pooling  a fund by the  proceeds  of  donations,  unclaimed  dividend etc., and lend the same to the needy people with concessional rates     of interest for the  purposes  of self employment etc. and if the borrower   pays the installments regularly  then we will refund the interest amount as  a bonus to him.

Q: What is your message to the present generation ?

A: Struggle hard and succeed in your life. There is no short cut for the success. Hard work only will give you happiness and peace in your life.

Lancer and Shaila : On behlf of the  "barkur.com" team members and viewers  we wish you,  all  the  directors  and staff members very best in the days  to come.
