Barkur Bridge, the gateway to the Brahmmavar-Udupi - Mangalore, is
under threat. It is learnt from sources that it will take 6 months to
complete the repair work. D.C has visited the spot and Local MLA
Mr.Jayaprakash Hegde who is in Bangalore, appraised the situation to
Transport Secretary Mr.Rasquinha. It is proposed to divert the
Shimogga, Halady traffic via newly built bridge near Kavadi - Kota to
connect NH 17. Presently two wheelers and pedestrians are allowed to
make use the Bridge, once the repair work starts we feel the route
will be closed completely for three weeks. Barkur online appeal the
Govt. District and PWD authorities, to take immediate steps to
undertake this job and finish it at the earliest.

Is it another live example of poor Karnataka Govt. PWD work - the
bridge over Sita not even 50 years old showing signs of break down?
This road via Halady to interior Karnataka, now an important
State Highway.
It is an open appeal to our MLA Mr. J.P.Hegde and MP. Mrs. M. Madwaraj
to oversee the repair work to last the same another Century, like the
few one constructed by British still serving us!! Students, Office
goers will have tough time, that too during rainy season!
Friends at Melbourne sharing beautiful jokes with us Thank you.
MM Alvares,

LEADERS OF THE POLITICAL PARTIES, PLEASE WAKE-UP.. Today we had a
tough time, buses not crossing the Bridge, two-three boats are there
to shift /ferry passengers. Fine no torrential rains, children not
having boat experience had special curiocity, Little rock and other
School buses not running. The concerned authorities must take repair
work on war footing to allow normal transportation, within weeks. This
mishap will cost us three times monetarily, moreover time is lost in
travel. If there was other alternative bridge to connect Sastan via
Benne kudru or Moodahadu-Hosala, the impact would have little less.
Whom to tell or complain, leaders of the area please wake up!?
Barkurgar.

Mr James Fernandes picked up only one collection of Bonus commandment
out of 10 commandments..
10 Commandments of Marriage !! - Entire collection from friends... (
Note: This is specially for ppl who love some sense of Humor and not
for otherwise.)
Commandment 1. Marriages are made in heaven. But so again, are
thunder,liightening & rainfall.
Commandment 2. If you want your wife to listen and pay strict
attention to every word you say, talk in your sleep.
Commandment 3. Marriage is grand -- and divorce is at least 100
grand! (??)
Commandment 4. Married life is very frustrating. In the first year of
marriage, the man speaks and the woman listens. In the second year,
the woman speaks and the man listens. In the third year, they both
speak and the neighbors listen !
Commandment 5. When a man opens the door of his car for his wife, you
can be sure of one thing: Either the car is new or the wife.
Commandment 6. Marriage is when a man and woman become as one; The
trouble starts when they try to decide which one.
Commandment 7. Before marriage, a man will lie awake all night
thinking about something you say. After marriage, he will fall asleep
before you finish.
Commandment 8. Every man wants a wife who is beautiful, intelligent,
understanding, economical and a good cook. But our law allows only one
wife.
Commandment 9. Marriage and love are purely matter of chemistry. That
is why some wifes treat their husband like toxic waste.
Commandment 10. A man is incomplete until he is married. After that,
he is finished..
Friends,
Melbourne, 28/07/2004
One
has to be careful about what one wishes for! Unless, of course, one
means it, as in this case:
A
long married couple came upon a wishing well The wife leaned over,
made a wish and threw in a coin. The husband decided to make a wish,
too. But he leaned over too much, fell into the well, and drowned.
The wife was stunned for a moment but then smiled,
"It really works!"

Sudden and untimely death of Teacher Margaret on her way to School is
a shocking news to us. May the departed soul rest in peace and
Almighty give strength to her husband Sunil and family members bear
this un-bearable loss. It reminds us how secured one's life? Let us
try to serve others when it is possible and follow the ideals of
Teacher, to live a life useful to all. Our heartfelt sympathies to the
grief-stricken family at Barkur.

Fr.Joseph Anthony's story of Wood cutter is just like a parable and so
is the importance of prayer in life. We are too selfish to remember
the help of people, leave a side God, for all success it is mine and
failure is orphan. We want roads, Hospitals, Electricity, Telephones
at our natives.. etc and when it comes to sacrifice little land /
money even time then we show our real colors.
Of course to preach others is easy job in this world but practicing
the same in our life very difficult. Meanwhile, Mr. Eric, please
accept our thanks for Parish Bulletin - pedruchi chavi, small but
beautiful. Happy to know about new Vicar, Fr.Aranha, anxious to meet
him during our next visit. Muscat-Barkurian's might have utilised few
more pages to portray their talents, all special articles are
wonderful, but 'no directory and contact address'. Still a good effort
to start with, we are proud of you and congrats to each one of you.
Now don't you feel our updates bit scanty now-a-days, Archie is
concentrating only on POM's and
HOF's, James Fernandes too a rare contributor. Let us hope, Vicar's
Message will start now.. so are other
segments. Thanks Kishore, once again and best wishes to you in your
efforts to bring all barkurian's under one common umbrella.

The One Rupee Note:
"There was this highly crumpled ugly looking 100 Rupee note and a
similar torn 1 Rupee note on the conveyor belt, at the City Government
Reserve Building, heading for shredding since the notes were pretty
worn out and were stamped as 'Unfit for Circulation.' As they were
lying there side by side the 1 Rupee note said to the 100 Rupee note,
"Hey maaannnnnn, where have you been. I haven't seen you in a long
time?" The 100 Rupee note replied, "Man I have been having a ball!!
I've been traveling to distant countries, going to the finest
restaurants, to the biggest and best casinos, numerous boutiques, the
mall uptown, the mall downtown, the mall across town and even a mall
that I just newly built. In fact, just this week I've been to
Europe, watched a professional NBA game, Rodeo Drive,
the Cricket match, the World soccer finals, the all day retreat spa,
the top-notch hair salon and the new casino!! I have done it all!!!"
After describing his great travels, the100 Rupee note asked the 1
Rupee note, "What about you? Where have you been?" The 1 Rupee
replied, "Well, I've been to St. Peter's Church, the Baptist church,
the Methodist church, the Presbyterian church, the Episcopalian
church, the Church of God in Christ, the Catholic church, the Mormon
church, the church of the Latter Day Saints , the A.M.E. church, the
Disciple of Christ church, Christ the Scientist, and many times to
St. Peter's Church in Barkur, many a Temples in Udupi, Karkala, or
Barkur, "WAIT A MINUTE! WAIT A M I N U T E !!", shouted the 100
Rupee note to the 1 Rupee note. "What's a Church, and What is a
Temple?"

In my crude guess I must
not be wrong, if expect a Pedruchi Chavi sponsored by
American-Barkurian, if the latest call is given a due hearing in
September 2004.Yes, after Mumbai in Dec 03 and Muscat June 04 success,
it is just a matter of time to come forward any organisation or group
of people. May it be premature to expect the publication once in TWO
MONTHS any feelings Barkurians. Eric Soans will have easy days a-head
surely. Where is Feliciana of Kuwait or Herbert / Pius gang of Dubai,
wake-up friends it is your turn now!

I'm delighted to witness a close co-operation of
Pedruchi Chavi and Barkuronline - last week it was re-production of
Archie's article on Legendory J.P.Sequeira by Kishoo and this time the
very editorial reflecting on barkuronline Sandesh, by Eric. The whole
booklet was good and virgin and we Mumbai-Barkurian's feel envy of its
quality, while comparing Dec one focussing us.Anyway Eric and his team
doing a splendid job and Special issue Muscat Editor John Gonsalves too
deserve kudos!
Our Principal Mr Shetty looks very young even
after 50 long years of married life!! Sir, what is the secret?
Congratulations Sir, on behalf your Old Students.

Dear friends,
I
am in receipt of Pdruchi Chavi, which was designed by
Muscat
based
Barkurians. Hope others will take interest very soon. Sometime back
someone floated the idea of bringing out special issues of a
particular ward which is a good idea.
New
POM provides a good reading - this also proves a point a simple man
like Mr. Wilfred who remained behind the curtains also unearthed by
barkuronline to introduce to the world Barkur-community.
HOFs, POMs, Sandesh are the pro-active as well as popular segments
needs quick updates.
