Weeklong festivities
at Kachur Maldi Devi temple, Barkur
Best education
creates more opportunities in a competitive world. Children must
be educated based on their interests and only education is key for
the overall development of the society, said Home Minister,
Dr.V.S.Acharya. He was speaking at the Dharmika Sabha held
on the occasion of the annual festivities of Kachur Maldi Devi and
Babbuswami Moolasthana.
He promised that he
will grant financial assistance for the development of the temple
after discussing the matter with the Chief Minister.
Minister for higher
education Aravinada Limbavali said that he will try to increase
the scholarships provided for the students belonging to backward
castes and tribes. He said more efforts will be put to develop the
Kachur Maldi Devi temple.
An application
regarding the helps required to further develop the temple was
handed over to the ministers at the same time.
Eashwar Saligrama
was honored at the occasion for his fantastic stone carvings
provided for the temple.

General Secretary
Gokuldas Barkur briefed about the temple and its development
plans. Seetharama welcomed and Sanjeeva conducted the proceedings.
Ministers, MLA and
other guests offered their prayers at the temple.
Bailakere
Deepothsava was held on the same occasion. Festivities were on for
about a week and more than 15000 devotees from all over the
undivided Dakshina Kannda districts visited the shrine which is
gaining its popularity day by day and year by year. Various
cultural programmes were also staged on both days which are
enjoyed and appreciated by the public.

Children’s Literary Convention to held at Barkur
The ‘Ninth Annual Conference of Children Literature’ a much
acclaimed eagerly awaited annual event jointly organized by
Shanthivana Trust, Shrikshethra, Dharmastala,
www.barkuronline.com, Shri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Belagavi and
Swami Vivekananda Samskrithika Kendra, Barkur will be held at
Barkur on Sunday, 25th January, 2009 at Gurudev
Bhuvan, Shivagiri Kshetra, Near Kalchapra, Barkur.
Apart from the exposition and exploration of children talents in
writing, both prose and poetry, it will be attended by renowned
educators interested in children‘s and adolescent literature.
Kavi Ghosti of budding poets & poetess moderated by Vitthal
Gaonkar, Educational Officer Karkala Cluster, lectures by experts
like haridasa Shri B.C. Rao, Shivapaura and Pattabhirama Sullia in
Kannada Children literary works, two discussions schedules – one
in the morning and the other in the afternoon and the valedictory
programme to wind up with the distribution of prizes /
certificates to all participants and honoring the state level
achievers from the locality, will constitute the proceedings of
one full day. Moreover all these events, compeered, monitored and
presented by children only.
Kumari Sumalatha, a 10th standard student from
Government P.U.College, Kokkarne will be the president of the
conference , while Ambathanaya Mudradi, President , Udupi District
Kannada Sahithya Parishath has consented to the inauguration. S.
Vasantha Shetty, Regional Education Officer will release the book
of collection of written by high school students. Many great
achievers in their respective field like H. Chandra Shekhara
Kedlaya of Nirmala Highschool Brahmavar, Best Teacher award winner
from the State Government, Kumari Priya nayak, a 7th
standard student who won bronze medal in national level in Yoga,
Kumari Sharadhi Patil, State level first place winner in the
singing competitions and many others are recognized to be honored
on these occasion.
Eric Soans Barkur a noted Kannada/Konkanni Story writer and poet
of the Thururutthuthu Konkanni CD fame will be chief guest at the
valedictory programme, has agreed to distribute the certificates
to the participants.
Kumari Pallavi Sajangadde, Kumari Pavithra Shettigar, Kumari
Harshitha Joshi and Kumari Ashwini Udupa will be at the helm of
the days affairs as conductors of the proceedings.
As in the past such meetings, this time too, the organizers
briefed to the media, that all arrangements will be made to ensure
that the forthcoming get-together will encourage high standards of
criticism, research and teaching in children’s literature.

will enter a conversation that motivate one’s teaching or ignite
one’s writing in days to come. One perhaps carry a message or book

Next year is the 10th anniversary of this unique
convention at Barkur and organizers are gearing up to make the
event a grand celebration of children’s literature.

A
talented and bright student from Barkur
Rohith Rao, son of P. Jayaram Rao and Shobha J Rao,
residents of Hari Kripa, near railway station , Barkur secured
2nd place in Udupi district by Scoring 96.2% in Kannada
medium in SSLC board exams conducted last year while he was
student of 10th standard at National Pre- University
College, Barkur.
Rohith is currently studying his pre university first year at
Vidyodaya Pre- University Collage, Udupi in science stream. Apart
from academics he excels in extra curricular activities and a sort
of all rounder. Recently he won many prizes on the prize
distribution day at National Pre- University College, Barkur for
his excellent performance in the last academic year.

Red Cross & NSS units of Smt.Rukmini Shedthi Memorial Government
First Grade College Barkur jointly organized the blood camp at
Barkur Rotary building hall. The Camp was inaugurated by Mr.
Dinesh, Manager, Corporation Bank Heradi branch and presided by
Mr. Ganesh Vakuda.

Citizen's Forum Felicitates Achievers
Brahmavar-Barkur
Nagarika Samiti organized a felicitation programme for the
achievers at the Dharmavara Auditorium near Brahmavar at 5.30 pm
on Wednesday, December 24.
Presiding over the
function, Dr B M Hegde, retired vice-chancellor of Manipal
University, inaugurated the programme while Dr G P Shetty,
agricultural scientist, inaugurated the newly renovated air
conditioned hall.

Delivering the key
note address on the occasion, Dharmaraj Shetty, founder
president of Bramavar-Barkur Citizen's Forum, spelt out his dreams
about transforming twin towns of Bramavar-Barkur into a model
town in the next ten years and explained about the projects and
programmes that need to be taken up to realize this dream. He
expressed the opinion, that the main focus of the people should be
on agriculture for future development.
