Born on 2nd December, 1929, Msgr. Marcel J Pinto, former Vicar General of the Diocese of Chickmagalore peacefully breathed his last at the age of 92 in Little Sisters of Poor Convent, Kulshekar, Mangalore on 28th April, 2021.
St Peters Church Barkur was the one fortunate parish to have him as First Assistant Parish Priest immediately after his ordination on 02-04-1957….It’s interesting to note over here Rev Fr. Lawrence Montero 1957 - 59 and thereafter V. Rev. Fr. Aloysius Rosario were the Vicar’s of our Church during this time, till 1959 -61.
From Barkur he was transferred to St. Rita’s Church, Cassia and later on Chickmagalore Diocese was erected and Fr. Pinto served there in different capacities. He was Parish Priest of Sakleshpur, Moodigere and Chickmagalore Cathedral. Also HM of St Josephs High School Chickmagalore and Editor of Navajyoti a Diocesan periodical.
Barkurian elders recollect their great days in association with this young priest of their time who was a reservoir of knowledge, devotion and love for youth and children.
The Holy Mass will be offered at 3.30 pm on 29th April, followed by burial in the Holy Cross Church Cemetery.
