Barkur, December 18, 2024 - The picturesque parish of Barkur came alive today with the annual feast honoring Saint Peter, drawing hundreds of devotees and creating a atmosphere of spiritual celebration and community joy.
The highlight of the day was the high mass, which was solemnly concelebrated by the Bishop of Shimoga Diocese, Rev Dr Francis Serrao. Joining him were 18 distinguished guest priests from Udupi diocese and surrounding regions, adding a sense of ecclesiastical grandeur to the religious observance.
Parishioners arrived in large numbers, accompanied by their families and relatives, filling the church with a palpable sense of devotion and reverence. The mass concluded with a vibrant celebration that transformed the church campus into a festive carnival-like environment.
The event featured an impressive array of stalls that catered to all ages and interests. Local vendors displayed an enticing variety of sweets that tempted both young and old, while toy stalls offered a delightful selection for children. A special mention goes to the Barkur ICYM (Indian Catholic Youth Movement) unit, which strategically set up engaging stalls that became a center of attraction.
The ICYM stalls were particularly noteworthy, offering an exciting mix of entertainment. Fun games challenged participants' skills, while the lucky draws added an element of suspense and excitement. The stall's ice cream sales provided a welcome respite from the day's warmth, proving to be a popular attraction among attendees.
The parish feast not only served as a religious commemoration but also demonstrated the strong community spirit of Barkur, bringing together people of all ages in a celebration of faith, tradition, and shared joy.
As the festivities continued throughout the day, the church campus buzzed with laughter, conversation, and the spirit of community, making this year's Saint Peter's feast a memorable event for all who attended.
