The preliminary round of All India Konkani Poetry Reciting Competition, Udupi Division, was held at Mount Rosary Church Kallianpur on 28th July 2019. The event was organised by Kavitha Trust in association with ICYM Barkur Unit.
The contestants from St Peter Church Barkur Parish grabbed the attention of all.
Mr Alston Dsouza, S/O Mrs & Mr Alice and Pius James Dsouza, won and qualified for finals Rohan and Lavita Monterio Youth Kavita Reciting Competition.
Ms Jancita Quadras, D/O Mrs & Mr Anitha and James Quadras, won and qualified for finals of Nelson and Lavina Rodricks Chafra Dcosta Memorial Kids Kavita Reciting Competition.
The event of finals is scheduled to be on January 12th 2020 in Madgaon Goa.
The other contestants from Barakur who got recognised for participation in the form of receiving a Book and Certificate from the organisers were, Ashan Almeida, Alita Fernandes and Preston Dsouza.
The renowned poets of Konkani Mr William Pais, Mr Andrew Dcunha and Mr Kishore Gonsalves were the judges for the competition.
Initially, President of Kavita Trust Mr Kishore Gonsalves welcomed the gathering. Founder of Kavita Trust Mr Melwin Rodrigues presented the glimpse of the mission of the Trust.
ICYM Barkur Unit President Mr Glen Furtado, ICYM Kallianpur Ward President Mr Venrold Lewis were present during the event and were presented with mementos for their support.
