Fans of Konkani music had a memorable day on Wednesday November 11 as noted singer Claud D'Souza, who was on a sabbatical, was back on the stage to enthrall the large gathering at Bhaidhas hall, Vile Parle west, in the first of the six musical shows to be held in Mumbai.
Claud Nite was organized by St Peter’s Association (Barkur), Mumbai, which has served in educational and social spheres for more than two-and-a-half decades, as part of its 27th anniversary celebrations.
Fr Valerian Mendonca, chief guest of the occasion lauded the services of the association.
Model Cooperative Bank executive president Albert W D’Souza, former executive president Vincent Mathais, businessmen Rony Goveas, Francis Rasquinha and Harry Rebello were present as guests of honour. Albert D'Souza said that Model Bank is a blessing from the elders and that it will soon be a multi-state bank with the cooperation of everyone concerned.
Model Bank directors advocate Pius Vas, Benedicta Rebello, Lazarus Menezes, Thomas Lobo, businessman Harry Buthello, Kalashree Claud D’Souza and others were present as special invitees. Association office-bearers presented bouquets to the guests and honoured them.
Konkan Kalashree Claud D'Souza enthralled the gathering with a splendid performance, ably supported by other artistes and musicians from Mangaluru. In the programme led by Clement Lobo, well-known singers Ivan Sequeira, Anita D’ Souza, Ashwin D’ Costa and Jyotsna rendered melodious numbers.
Popular music director Joswin Pinto and group provided the music. The popular Dolla Mangalore, Joseph Pinto, Alwyn Veigas, Felix D’ Souza and Anil Saldanha had the audience in splits with comedy acts. Thunder Guys group presented scintillating dances.
Ace compere Leslie Rego kept the audience engaged throughout the event in his inimitable style.
Association vice-president Norbert Menezes and Timothy D’ Souza, treasurer John Gonsalves, joint secretary Arthur Mendonca, public relation officer Jolwin Furtado, former presidents Felix Barnes, Richard Carvalho, Simon Peter Furtado, Gladys S Sequeira, Wilma B Sequeira, Benny F Barnes and others were present on the dais.
Office-bearers of the association handed over a cheque on behalf of the association to Merinol Higher Primary School convener Fr Valerian Mendonca.
Association president Boniface Sequeira welcomed. Honorary chief secretary Eric Carvalho gave details of the activities of the association. Project organizer Ivan Rebello introduced the guests and compered the programme. Programme coordinator Joylan Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
