Jackfruit Fest to be Held for the First Time in Barkur, the Ancient Capital of Tulunadu

For the first time, Barkur — historically regarded as the capital of Tulunadu — will host a Jackfruit Fest (Halasu Mela). The two-day event is being jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Barkur, the Shourya Disaster Management Unit of Barkur, the "Nammooru Barkur" Facebook group, and Benaka Events, Kundapura.

The fest will be held on Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the Pattabhirama Chandra Kalyana Mantapa on Ratha Beedi (Chariot Street), Barkur.

The main attractions of the event will include numerous stalls, food outlets, live preparation of holige (sweet flatbread) and jilebi, an ice-cream stall, and stalls selling Ayurvedic products.

The organisers have urged the public to attend in large numbers to encourage small entrepreneurs and farmers participating in the fest.
