Local Hero Honored: 89-Year-Old Sylvester Suares Receives Prestigious Award for Selfless Service

In a heartwarming ceremony that celebrated the spirit of selfless service and community dedication, Mr. Silvester Suvares, an 89-year-old rickshaw driver from Barkur village, was honored with the prestigious 'Sadhaka Ratna' (Service Gem) award today in Brahmavar.

The award ceremony was jointly organized by three prominent organizations: the Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Gramabhivruddhi Yojane (Dharmasthala Rural Development Scheme) - Brahmavar Taluk, the Akhila Karnataka Janajagruthi Trust - Brahmavar, and the Shaurya Shri Dharmasthala Disaster Management Program. The event recognized individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to serving their communities despite personal challenges.

Mr. Silvester Suvares, a resident of Halekodi village of  the historic Barkur , has become a symbol of resilience and dignity in his community. Despite his advanced age and the physically demanding nature of his profession, he continues to operate his rickshaw, embodying the values of hard work and self-respect that have defined his life.

A Life of Service and Family Values

Mr. Suvares belongs to the St.Joseph Ward of the Barkur parish and has been an integral part of the community fabric for decades. He is living with his wife, Mrs. Celine Suvares and is blessed with six children and a large extended family. His life story represents the quintessential example of how an individual can maintain dignity and continue contributing to society regardless of age or circumstances.

The award recognizes not just his professional dedication but his embodiment of the principles of self-reliance and community service. At an age when most people would have retired, Mr. Suvares continues to serve his community, providing essential transportation services while maintaining his independence and dignity.
