Barkur, April 2, 2026 — The faithful of St. Peter Church, Barkur, gathered on the evening of Maundy Thursday to commemorate one of the most sacred moments in the Christian liturgical calendar — the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the establishment of the priesthood.

The solemn Mass began at 6:00 PM and was presided over by the Parish Priest, Fr. Ronald Miranda, who led the congregation in remembering the events of the Last Supper, when Jesus Christ gave His apostles the command to eat His Body and drink His Blood, offering Himself as the ultimate sacrifice of love.

Central to the evening's celebration was the Washing of the Feet — a deeply moving ritual that recalls Jesus' act of humble service toward His disciples. In keeping with this tradition, Fr. Miranda washed the feet of 12 selected parishioners, embodying Christ's Testament of Love and Service and His call to servant leadership.

The Word of God was proclaimed during the liturgy, drawing the congregation into prayerful reflection on the significance of the night.

Following the conclusion of the Mass, the Blessed Sacrament was solemnly transferred to the Altar of Repose, where the faithful gathered in quiet adoration to worship Jesus in the Eucharist. Special blessings were also offered for priests everywhere, in recognition of the sacred office instituted on this holy night.

Maundy Thursday marks the beginning of the Easter Triduum — the three holiest days of the Christian year — leading into Good Friday and culminating in the joy of Easter Sunday.
