Mumbai: St Peter's Association, Barkur, Steps into Silver Jubilee Year

Alwyn Andrade's Konnee Samanaanth enthralls audience in Mumbai


St Peter's Association, Barkur, which has been rendering social and educational services for the past 25 years, flagged off its silver jubilee celebrations at Bhuriben Laxmichand Golwala hall in Ghatkopar (West) here on Sunday January 6.
Janet Lawrence D’Souza, president of the Association's women’s wing, Mumbai zone flagged off the celebration while Simon Peter Furtado, Association president presided.
One of the premier institutions of Mumbai for the last 25 years, SPA as its popularly known, is instrumental in gathering Barkurians spread around Mumbai  and kept the Barkurian spirit of love and care live among its members and  helped the cause of educating  the needy in the native place. " Konnee Samanaanth" a comedy Konkani play by The Expressions, written by Alwyn Andrade Barkur,  which made its roaring debut a week back at Sasthan  was presented to mark the occasion   at  Bhuri   Ben   Laxmichand  Golwala  Auditorium,    Cama   Lane,   Ghatkopar  (West).
Fr Albert Gonsalves, parish priest of Fathima Church; Br K Silvera; Jayaprakash Shetty Barkur of Mulund Bunts; Harry Rebello; Alwyn Rasquina; Harry Bothello; Raymond Lobo; Sebastian D’souza were the guests of honour.
Jayaprakash Shetty in his address said that the Association's love towards their motherland is exemplary. "Barkur is not only known for its ancient tradition, but also noted for spreading its fragrance. We should be proud that we belong to this region," he added.
He also lauded the Association for its contributions in various fields and also wished the members luck.
"There is good future for any association which works for the betterment of the society, and St Peter’s Association is on the right track," said Janet D’Souza, "By stepping into the 25th year, it is clear that the Association is fulfilling all its goals. I wish that people continue to be benefited from their service."
Simon Peter Furtado welcomed the gathering, Joylan Fernandes compered while Ivan Suvaris delivered the vote of thanks.
Morvine Quadros, Barkur, the hot favorite  of the Gulf Voice of Mangalore and Runner up of GVOM, who is also a member of The Expressions rendered popular Konkani Songs before the show.
