Kundapur, April 12, 2026 — Barkur's Nishmitha Gonsalves turned heads at this year's Deanery Level Sports Meet, YUVAURA 26, delivering a standout performance that earned her two medals across the track events.
The annual meet, organized by the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) and hosted this year by the Kundapur Deanery, was held at Gandhi Maidan, Kundapur. The Inter-Deanery competition brought together young athletes from across the region, making the podium finishes all the more competitive and commendable.
Representing the Kallianpur Deanery, Nishmitha demonstrated remarkable stamina and determination on the track, claiming a Bronze in the 800 Meter Race (women) and a Silver in the 1500 Meter Race (women) — a double podium finish that drew widespread admiration from fellow athletes, coaches, and spectators alike.
Her ability to compete across two demanding distance events on the same day speaks to her endurance and athletic discipline, qualities that have quickly made her one of the more promising young talents to watch in the region's Catholic youth sports circuit.
