Udupi District's Heggunje-born Uday Kumar Shetty, an ex-student of Barkur National Pre-University College, has been appointed as the Deputy Director of the Central Ministry of Law and Justice. The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Modi, has appointed him to the prestigious positions of Deputy Director in the Ministry of Law and Justice and Legislative Council. These appointments mark a significant achievement for Uday Kumar Shetty, as he becomes the first prominent Kannadiga to hold such high-ranking positions in the Ministry of Law and Justice.

Having joined the Indian Legal Service in 2003, Uday Kumar Shetty has served as a legal officer in the Law Commission of India. He holds a degree in law from the renowned Mangalore University, and he pursued his postgraduate studies in Labor Law at Bangalore University. Notably, he has previously served as a guest lecturer in the field of law at the Udupi-based Vaikunta Baliga College.
