Pontifical Missionary Children’s Day Celebrated at Barkur Parish

Barkur, February 11, 2024 : The Missionary Childhood Association, a venerable institution founded by Bishop Charles Forbin Janson in 1843 with the noble vision of "Children helping Children," celebrated its annual day with fervor and devotion at Barkur Parish on Sunday, February 11, 2024. The day commenced with a solemn Holy Mass, presided over by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Ronald Miranda.

In his homily, Fr. Ronald Miranda exhorted the children to become missionaries through their small acts of kindness and service in their daily lives. The liturgy was made vibrant and engaging with the active participation of the children.

Following the Mass, a small get-together was organized, spearheaded by the children themselves under the guidance of the Proclamation and Evangelization Commission. The program commenced with a melodious Welcome Prayer Song, setting the tone for the festivities. Miss Verina Rodrigues delivered a warm welcome speech, extending greetings to all attendees.

During the event, Miss Vivita Picardo presented the yearly report, highlighting the achievements and activities of the Missionary Childhood Association. The function was graced by the esteemed presence of Parish Priest Fr. Ronald Miranda, along with Father Rolwin Fernandes, Vice President of the Pastoral Council Joseph Fernandes, Sister Jean Paul, Proclamation Commission Coordinator Harbert Menezes, Secretary Johnson D'Almeida, and Missionary Children Association President Macneil Suaris.

Addressing the gathering, Fr. Ronald Miranda emphasized the importance of kindness, wholehearted love for God, and extended his best wishes to the children for their upcoming examinations. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Miss Stalita Pinto, followed by a heartfelt Thanksgiving Hymn.

To add delight to the occasion, the children were treated to snacks and ice cream, fostering a sense of camaraderie and joy among all attendees.

The celebration of Pontifical Missionary Children’s Day at Barkur Parish served as a reminder of the invaluable contribution children can make towards building a more compassionate and caring world, in line with the noble mission of the Missionary Childhood Association.
