Barkur, June 9, 2026 — Maryknoll Higher Primary School, Hosala, Barkur, held its annual Distribution of Uniforms and Notebooks on Tuesday, marking the start of the 2026–27 academic year. The event also celebrated a significant milestone: the 30th consecutive year of sponsorship by St. Peter's Association (SPA), Barkur–Mumbai.
The programme began at 10.30 am with a prayer by the school children. Headmistress Ms. Joyce Vandana D'Sa welcomed guests and dignitaries, and Rev. Fr. Ronald Miranda, Correspondent and Parish Priest of St. Peter's Church, Barkur, presided over the function. Fr. Miranda spoke on the importance of value-based education and commended the long-standing commitment of SPA Mumbai to the institution.



Retired Professor Archibald Furtado, Honorary Secretary of the MHPS Senior Students Association and founder Secretary of St. Peter's Association in 1988, served as Chief Guest. He spoke on the significance of Kannada medium primary education and reflected on three decades of the association's contribution to the school, also acknowledging the ongoing support of former students.


Newly elected PTA President Mr. Shankar Shanthi pledged his support for the school's continued progress and welfare. Other dignitaries present included Mr. Norman D'Souza, former Vice President of SPA Mumbai; Mr. Divyanand Gonsalves, Trustee of GBCT; and Ms. Sabitha Picardo, Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council. Together with other guests, they distributed uniforms, notebooks, and stationery to all students.




The programme was organised by the school's teaching staff. Teacher Ms. Dimple D'Souza proposed the vote of thanks. The event concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
