ST. PETER'S FEAST 2026: BARKUR PARISH AND ITS GLOBAL DIASPORA UNITE IN GRAND CELEBRATION OF THEIR PATRON

From the ancient shores of Barkur to the bustling cities of Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Dubai — the children of St. Peter's Parish celebrate their patron with faith, festivity, and fellowship

Barkur / Bengaluru / Mumbai / Dubai, June 27, 2026 — In a magnificent confluence of faith and community spirit, the titular feast of St. Peter the Apostle— the patron of the historic St. Peter's Church, Barkur — is set to be celebrated this year with extraordinary grandeur, both at the mother parish and across the globe. While the church in Barkur prepares to solemnise the feast on Monday, June 29, 2026— the very feast day of the Apostle — the Barkurian diaspora across three major cities has organised simultaneous celebrations on Sunday, July 5, 2026 ensuring that no Barkurian, wherever they may be, is left untouched by the joy of the occasion.

BARKUR: THE MOTHER PARISH LEADS WITH SOLEMN SPLENDOUR

At the very heart of all these celebrations stands the ancient and venerable St. Peter's Church, Barkur — the mother church from which the faith, identity, and community bonds of all Barkurians flow. This year, the titular feast is being observed with exceptional devotion, and the entire parish community — natives and those abroad — has been warmly invited to come together as one parish family to seek the blessings of their Patron.

The centrepiece of the Barkur celebration will be a Solemn Thanksgiving Mass on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., offered at the parish church in thanksgiving for the blessings received through the intercession of St. Peter and in renewed consecration to the Apostle's patronage.

In a special honour that underscores the significance of this year's feast, the Mass will be celebrated by V. Rev. Msgr. Francis Xavier Lewis as the Main Celebrant — a distinguished churchman whose presence lends the occasion an elevated spiritual and ceremonial dignity befitting the grandeur of the titular feast.

The celebrations are being organised under the pastoral guidance of Rev. Fr. Ronald Miranda, the Parish Priest of St. Peter's Church, Barkur, whose leadership has infused this year's feast preparations with both devotional depth and festive warmth. In the spirit of true parish unity, the invitation is extended with joy and gratitude to all parishioners — native and abroad — to come together in faith and thanksgiving as one parish family and seek the blessings of their Patron, St. Peter.

BENGALURU: FAITH, FELLOWSHIP, AND FESTIVITY IN THE GARDEN CITY

The St. Peter's Association (Barkur) Bengaluru has organised an event that promises to blend solemn worship with warm community camaraderie. The celebration will commence with a Holy Mass in Konkani at 11:00 a.m. on July 5, 2026, at St. Jude's Church, CBI Road, RT Nagar, Bengaluru – 560032, making it accessible to the large Barkurian and Konkani-speaking community settled in the city.

The Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Jason Furtado SJ, accompanied by Rev. Fr. George Andrade, lending the occasion a spiritually uplifting atmosphere enriched by the warmth of familiar Konkani prayers and hymns.

Adding a distinguished touch to the event, Dr. Sunil Furtado, Chief Neuro Surgeon at Manipal Hospital, Yelahanka, will grace the occasion as Chief Guest, while Dr. Shireen Furtado, Senior Consultant in Dermatology at Aster CMI Hospital, will serve as Guest of Honour. Their presence underscores the community's pride in the professional achievements of its members and their commitment to giving back to the community they belong to.

Following the Mass, the celebrations will continue at Amber Palace Party Hall, 1st Cross, Judges Colony, near Ganganagar Bus Stop, RT Nagar, where the Annual General Meeting (AGM), cultural programs, and a fellowship lunch are on the agenda. The cultural segment is expected to showcase the rich artistic talents within the Barkurian community, while the fellowship lunch will offer an opportunity for members — old friends and new faces alike — to reconnect and relive memories of home.

MUMBAI: THE CITY OF DREAMS CELEBRATES ITS BARKURIAN ROOTS

Thousands of miles to the west, in India's bustling commercial capital, the St. Peter's Association (Barkur) Mumbai, Regd. is extending a warm and heartfelt invitation to all members and their families to come together and celebrate their patron's feast in the true spirit of unity and joy.

The Mumbai celebration will be held at St. John The Evangelist Church Hall, Marol, Andheri East, Mumbai – 400059 — a central and convenient location for the community spread across the vast metropolitan area.

The Holy Mass is scheduled at 9:15 a.m., to be presided over by the distinguished Rev. Fr. Dr. Ivon D'Almeida, SFX, Professor at Pilar Theological College, Pilar-Goa — a man of great learning and pastoral warmth whose presence is sure to make the liturgy a memorable spiritual experience for all in attendance.

The Mass will be followed by entertainment programs spotlighting the creative talents of the Mumbai Barkurian community, culminating in a fellowship lunch that promises the warmth of shared food, shared stories, and shared memories of a hometown that every Barkurian carries in their heart.

The Management Committee of SPA Mumbai — President Eric Carvalho, Secretary Arthur Mendonca, Treasurer Vincent Furtado, and Vice Presidents John L. Gonsalves and Wilfred Sequeira — have extended a personal and warm invitation to every member and their family to make the occasion a resounding success through their enthusiastic participation.

UAE: BARKURIANS IN THE GULF KEEP THE FLAME ALIVE

Across the Arabian Sea, in the glittering emirate of Dubai, the Barkurian community of the UAE is making its own preparations to honour St. Peter in a celebration that speaks to the close-knit bonds that define this community wherever it settles.

The feast will be celebrated on July 5, 2026, at the residence of Peter Menezes, Nagarmut, Dubai— a fitting tribute to the community's tradition of gathering in each other's homes, keeping alive the intimacy and warmth of Barkur's own village spirit even in the heart of a modern global city.

Allen Crasta, leader of the organising team, has urged all Barkurian community members in the Emirates to register their participation through the community WhatsApp group, ensuring a smooth and well-organised celebration that embraces everyone.

A COMMUNITY BOUND BY FAITH, ROOTS, AND LOVE FOR THEIR PATRON

What makes this year's celebrations truly remarkable is the sheer scale of participation — four simultaneous events across three countries, all united in honour of the same patron, rooted in the same faith, and animated by the same deep-seated sense of identity that has always defined the people of Barkur.

The Barkurian diaspora is known for its resilience, its professional achievements, and above all, its extraordinary sense of community. Whether in the IT corridors of Bengaluru, the financial heartbeat of Mumbai, or the sun-drenched avenues of Dubai, Barkurians have carried with them the values of their homeland — hard work, faith, and fellowship. And each year, the feast of St. Peter serves as a luminous reminder of where they come from and who they are.

At the centre of it all is the ancient church in Barkur, where on June 29, as the Solemn Thanksgiving Mass rings out under the gracious celebration of Msgr. Francis Xavier Lewis, the prayers of an entire global community will rise as one — in gratitude, in devotion, and in joyful celebration of St. Peter, the fisherman who became a rock, and the patron who has watched over Barkur and her people across the centuries.

Come together in faith and thanksgiving as one parish family and seek the blessings of our Patron, St. Peter.
