If you have a strong desire to succeed and willingness to work hard day throughout, nothing can stop you from climbing the ladder of success. That is what a young girl from Barkur has proved.
Sunitha Lobo from Hannehalli in Barkur has become the only floor hockey athlete from Karnataka to qualify for the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2013, to be held from January 26 to February 5 at South Korea Pyeong Chang.
She is among the 84 athletes and coaches from India who are on their way to attend the Winter Games.
Sunitha is the only athlete selected from Karnataka to participate in the floor hockey event. She has been selected to the national team from a number of championships and selection and training camps held during the last three years across the country.
Sunitha is proud daughter of the late Peter Lobo and Helen Lobo. She is the fourth among the five children.
Sunitha Lobo was admitted at the Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre for the differently-abled children at Pamboor on June 1, 2003. Since then she has shown keen interest in sports and other co-curricular activities. She was sent to different places across the country for coaching camps. In July 2011 she participated in the Floor Hockey National Coaching Camp at Shimla, and was selected as the probable athlete for Floor Hockey Event in preparation for the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2013 to be held at South Korea. She participated in the two preparatory camps at Delhi, and recently from January 3 to 8 she was sent to Himachal Pradesh for further coaching and training.
