Shri Vidhyesha Vidyamanya National English Medium High School, fondly known as SVVN Heradi – Barkur, celebrated its two-day Annual Sports Day with zest and fervor. The prestigious English Medium High School, established in 2004 under the initiative of the Barkur Educational Society, has not only consistently achieved stellar academic results in SSLC but has also nurtured and showcased outstanding sports talents over the last two decades.
The school, situated in Heradi, Barkur, has become synonymous with excellence, producing not only academic achievers but also fostering accomplished sportspersons who have gained recognition and respect at the Taluk, District, State, and even National levels.
The event, held on Friday, December 8th, for students from Class V to X, and Saturday, December 9th, reserved for juniors from KG to Class IV, kicked off at 9:30 am with a spectacular inaugural ceremony. The colorful and disciplined march past, led by various squads accompanied by the school band, set the stage for an exciting showcase of physical prowess.
Mrs. Likhita Kotary, the Head Mistress, along with Physical Education teachers Mr. Suresh Shetty and Mrs. Jyothi, and the dedicated teaching staff, have consistently worked towards keeping the students fit and fine throughout the year.
The grand inaugural ceremony began with an invocation of Almighty's blessings through a prayer hymn. Mr. Rajaram Shetty, the correspondent, extended a warm welcome to all participants and spectators, acknowledging the hard efforts of the school's leadership, teachers, the Barkur Educational Society, management, parents, and donors.
Mr. Vittal Shetty, Vice President of Barkur Educational Society (BES), Shedikodlu, hoisted the school flag, marking the official commencement of the two-day sports extravaganza. Former Correspondent Dr. BM Somayaji, after lighting the traditional lamp, declared the event open. An oath-taking ceremony, led by Sports Secretary Ms. Sharanya, further added a sense of sportsmanship to the proceedings.
In his address, Dr. Somayaji emphasized the importance of physical fitness, stating that the playground is where both the brain and body function simultaneously. Teams that represented the school at the District and State levels were recognized and honored with special prizes.
The newly appointed Secretary of Barkur Educational Society, Mr. Ashok Kumar Shetty, a retired Head Master and recipient of the State Best Teacher award, shared insightful thoughts with the participants. He stressed that recognizing talents in academics, sports, or culture is crucial for success and encouraged students to value friendships formed on the field and playground.
Teams excelling in the march past were honored, and Mr. B. Shantarama Shetty, the President of the Barkur Educational Society, congratulated the entire SVVN team for their tireless efforts in organizing various school activities. He reminded students that while winning is the aim, active participation with heart, body, and soul is the most important aspect.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by SVVN's Physical Education Director, Mr. Suresh Shetty, who expressed gratitude to all contributors, cooperators, and collaborators for making the Annual Sports Days a resounding success.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by office bearers of BES, correspondents of National Educational Institutions, the Ex-Students Association, Parents Teachers Association, well-wishers, donors, and enthusiastic parents. The meticulously compered event, led by Senior Teachers Mrs. Bridget Gonsalves and Mrs. Sabitha Fernandes, supported by others, showcased SVVN Heradi – Barkur's commitment to holistic development through academics and sports.
