YCS Barkur Unit Organizes 'Naman' Competition to Celebrate Feast of Nativity of Mother Mary

Barkur, September 17, 2023- In a vibrant celebration of the Feast of the Nativity of Mother Mary, the Youth Catholic Students (YCS) unit in Barkur organized 'Naman,' a series of exciting competitions that brought children from LKG to 10th standard together in an atmosphere of learning and camaraderie. The event took place on September 17, 2023, and was graced by esteemed guests.

The event commenced with a warm welcome extended to the guests of honor, Fr. Steevan Fernandes, Youth Director of Udupi Diocese, and Fr. Nitesh, Rector of the Minor Seminary, who also took on the roles of quizmasters for the competitions. Joining them were Fr. Rolwin, Kallianpur Deanery Youth Director; Joseph Fernandes; Praveen Carvalho, ICYM Animator; Naveen Dias; and Sr. Jasmitha Crasta, YCS Animators. Prajwal D'Almeida led the welcome, and YCS members offered floral greetings to the distinguished guests.

Fr. Steevan addressed the gathering, emphasizing how these competitions could serve as a source of strengthening their Marian faith. Preston, a key figure in the event, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to making the day's program a reality.

The excitement among the children was palpable as the competitions kicked off at 4 PM. The events catered to different age groups:

LKG to III Std: A coloring competition that saw the artistic talents of the youngest participants shine. Judges Mr. Alden Oliver from Kemmanu and Mrs. Laveena Fernandes had the delightful task of selecting the winners.

IV and V Std: Students showcased their creativity by preparing colorful collages on the theme of Monthi feasts and related cultures. Judges Ms. Anitha Almeida from Sasthan and Mr. Ashley Bareeto from Kemmanu were tasked with choosing the best entries.

VI and VII Std: These students crafted vibrant flower paper decorations to adorn a statue of Mother Mary. Judging this creative event were Ms. Anisha Gonsalves from Manipal and Ms. Shilpa Serrao from Udupi.

VIII, IX, and X Std: The older students engaged in a knowledge-packed quiz, covering various topics related to Mother Mary. The quizmasters, Fr. Steevan and Fr. Nitesh, challenged the students' knowledge and wit.

The 'Naman' competition proved to be a joyful and educational occasion, fostering a sense of community and devotion among the young participants. It was a fitting tribute to the Feast of the Nativity of Mother Mary, celebrating faith, creativity, and knowledge in equal measure.
