Young Barkur Talent Gaurav John Carvalho Wins First Prize at Udupi Diocese Singing Competition

Udupi, October 26, 2025 – Gaurav John Carvalho from Kachchur, St. Peter's Ward, Barkur parish, brought glory to his parish by winning first prize in the under-10 years children's category at the diocese-level singing competition held in Pangla, Shankarpura today.

The young singer's achievement has made his parish proud at the diocesan level, earning him congratulations from the community. His parents, Sushma and Praveen Carvalho, a well-known singing couple from Kachchur, were overjoyed at their son's success.

Rising Star from a Musical Family

This latest victory adds another milestone to the impressive musical journey of young Gaurav, a student at St. Cecily's School in Udupi. Coming from a family deeply rooted in music, the talented youngster has already built a remarkable repertoire that belies his age.

Gaurav's musical prowess spans multiple languages and genres. He has mastered over 100 Kannada songs, more than 100 Konkani songs, and several Hindi compositions. What sets him apart is his ability to provide his own musical accompaniment, including preludes and interludes, showcasing a mature understanding of music rarely seen in someone so young.

The young artist has already graced several prestigious stages, including a recent performance at the Mini Wilfy Nite in Mangalore last November. He also secured second place in the 18th Diocese Level Singing Competition organized by ICYM Shankarpura in the children's category.

With such early success and a strong musical foundation from his talented parents, Gaurav John Carvalho appears destined for a bright future in the world of music.
