Kachur
Babbuswami temple get Rs.1 crore from the government
The State Budget of 2009/10 has
announced the One Crore rupees for the development of historical
Kachur Malthidevi and Babbuswami temple. The development
committee of this temple has expressed their gratitude for the
government of Karnataka and all MLAs of Karavali District.
Kachur Babbuswami Temple is the
Moolastana for more than 1000 Babbuswami temples of 6 districts.
Annually there are nearly 50,000 people are visiting the temple.
Construction of the Shila Degula is completed last year at a cost
of 1.50 corers.
Plans are drawn for more
developments like rebuilding of Bailakere’s Holy Pushkarini,
Community Hall, Food court, and tourist facilities etc at an
estimated cost of 1.80 crores.
Regular religious activities are
held in the temple like daily prayer, sankramana prayer, and
darshana seve is performed on 3rd
Sunday
of
every month
. According to the press release, the anniversary of the inception
is planned on 18th April and a Mass Wedding Ceremony is
planned on 19th April by the temple development
committee.
Post Graduate
Courses (M.Com and MSW) inaugurated at Government College
In continuation of
the annual festivities started from yesterday, the 11th
Annual Day was celebrated at Srimathi Rukmini Shedthi Memorial National
First Grade Government College along with the inauguration of the
Post Graduate Courses M.Com and MSW from current academic year.
Srimathi Rukmini Shedthi
Memorial National First Grade Government College is the only
government college to get 'B' Grade in NAAC accreditation in Udupi
District and first rural government college to start post
graduation courses within a span of ten years.
The programme was
started by hoisting the College Flag by chief guest on the
occasion Dr. Gabriel Fernandes, Professor of Medicine and Micro
Biology, University of Texas, USA.

of the college and Managing Director , Vasudha Chemicals Mumbai
and Rukmini Residency, Udupi, Haladi Shrinivasa Shetty, MLA,

V.L.
Roche, President, Vidyabhivardhini Sangha, Barkur were present on
the occasion.
Later at the formal
stage function presided over by
Prof. Rajashekhar Hebbar,
Principal, B. Sudhakar Shetty, Mega Donor of the college and
Managing Director , Vasudha Chemicals Mumbai and Rukmini
Residency, Udupi, accompanied by other guests on the stage
symbolically inaugurated the Post Graduate courses M.Com and MSW
by lighting the lamps.
Krishnamoorthi Y.R.
, Lecturer in Accountancy, Kumari Asha, Lecturer in Sociology,
Umesh K. Lecturer in Accountancy were felicitated by B.Sudhakar
Shetty as these lecturers obtained their M.Phil degrees for their
thesis in their respective fields.
Dr.Gabriel Fernandes
was felicitated with traditional shawl, garland, memento and
fruits platter for his various contributions to the development of
college in the last 10 years. Haladi Shrinivasa Shetty, MLA, did
the honors.
Winners of the
various completions in sports and cultural activities and the
students who excelled in academics were presented with prizes and
certificates. Dr. Fernandes, Haladi Shrinivasa Shetty,
B.Shantharama Shetty , V.L. Roche distributed the prizes and
certificates.
Two days festivities
concluded with various cultural programmes presented by the
students.

Day at Government College
Two days of annual
college festivities kicked off at Srimathi Rukmini Shedthi Memorial
National First Grade Government College with Annual Prize
Distribution on 17th February 2009.
The programme was
started by hoisting the College Flag by chief guest on the
occasion Dr. Gabriel Fernandes, Professor of Medicine and Micro
Biology, University of Texas, USA. Later at the formal stage
function presided over by Prof.Rajashekhar Hebbar, Principal,
Dr.Fernandes distributed the scholarships to the deserving
students. Dr.Fernandes, through his Village to College
Foundation is distributing scholarships to the needy students
who can’t afford the expenses of the college education from the
last couple of years. Once again this year too about 45 students
received a total sum of Rs.80000 through the foundation. Kishore

Sthayee Samithi, Taluk Panchayath, Udupi, and Chandrasekhar Shetty
Nalkudru, President. Grama Panchayath Hanehalli and Himakara
Shetty, President of the Parent Teacher’s Association were the

Winners of the
various competitions in sports and cultural activities and the
students who excelled in academics were presented with prizes and
certificates. Dr. Fernandes, Kishore Gonsalves, Satheesh Poojari,
Chandrashekara Shetty and Himakara Shetty distributed the prizes
among the winners.
Principal Rajshekar
Hebbar introduced Dr. Gabriel Fernades and his achievements. Dr. Fernandes
addressed the students and said he will always ready to help for
those needy students for their college education. He stressed on
the importance of having graduate and post graduate degrees in
today’s competitive world and urged students specially girls to
pursue higher education as much as possible.
Various cultural
programmes were presented by students. Annual College Day function
is scheduled for tomorrow.

Extension of Dr. Gabriel Fernandes Road inaugurated at Moodahadu
The newly built extension road running from one end to the
other of Moodahadu Kudru , from the new bridge to the proposed
linking bridge to Bennekudru, entirely built by the funds provided
by Dr.Gabriel Fernandes on villagers request was inaugurated
at a simple but very well attended function at Moodahadu Kudru
organized by Moodahadu Road Development Committee .
Earlier a foundation stone ceremony for a small house for a poor
family at Pandeshwar which is also aided by Dr.Fernandes was held
at Pandeshwar. Rev. Fr. R.C.M. Aranha blessed the
premises and Dr.Fernandes laid the foundation stone.
The extension of the road was inaugurated jointly by Jayaprakash
Hegde, former MLA an Dr. Gabriel Fernandes by cutting the ribbon
at the starting point of the road extension. Shankar Kundar,
Member, Jilla Panchayath , unveiled the name plate of the
Dr.Gabriel Fernandes Road.
Later at the formal stage function held at Kudru, Moodahadu Road
Development Committee felicitated Dr.Fernandes with traditional
shawl, garland and fruits platter for his generous gift in the
form of this road to villagers. Jayaprakash Hegde did the honors
on behalf of the villagers.

villagers expressed their wish of getting constructed the proposed
bridge connecting this new road to the Bennekudru ring road ,
which once completed will provide a direct road connection between
the Moddahadu-Pandeshwar to Barkur. Former MLA Jayaparaksh Hegde
promised to get it done within his means and Jilla Panchayath
Member Shankar Kundar announced that the potable water project for
the village is sanctioned and will materialize soon.

mother of Edgar, Edson/Gretchen, & Exter. Sister of late William,
Cecilia, late John, late Joesph, Fr. Denis, Molly, and Sr.
Corona(Winnie). Sister in law of Winnie, late Maxim, Stella ,
Gladys ,Denis , Wilfred & Lancy. Passed away on 14 February after
a brief illness in Manipal Hospital.

Passenger Shelter
inaugurated at Barkur Railway Station
A railway
passenger's shelter that was constructed at a cost of Rs 50,000 at
Barkur Railway Station by St Peter's Association Mumbai (Barkur),
to mark the Association's 20th annual day celebrations and annual
feast of Barkur St Peter's parish, was dedicated to the service on
Sunday February 1.
Mumbai-based St Peter's Association has been donating school
uniforms to the students of Maryknol Higher Primary School, Barkur
since the past many years, and also contributing for various
development works of Barkurr St Peter's parish. This is for the
first time that Association has extended the facility for the
comfort of train passengers and general public.
Retired
Principal and correspondent of NPUC B. Seetharama Shetty
inaugurated the passenger's shelter. Parish priest Fr R C M Aranha
blessed the premises.
Association president Richard Carvalho, secretary Ivan Rebello,
organizing committee member Ralph Monteiro, parish council vice
president Herald D Souza, Station master Sachin Shetty, Srinivas
Shetty and Vinod Kumar were present.
Richard
Carvalho welcomed the gathering while Ivan Rebello proposed the

Annual Sports Day at
Barkur college
Annual sports day of
Srimati Rukmini Shedthi Memorial National Government First Grade
College Barkur was held at Late Umashankar Shetty Sports grounds
of National Pre University College recently.
Kishore Gonsalves of
www.barkuronline.com was
the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony and declared the sports
day open. College Principal Prof.Rajshekhar Hebbar along with
other lecturers conducted various sports events throughout the
day. Winners of the sports will be rewarded with prizes on the
College Day planned in the month of February.
