BARKUR: Something extraordinary is stirring in Barkur!
As ICYM Barkur marches into its Golden Jubilee Year 1976–2026, the excitement is no longer confined to its present members. The entire Barkur Parish is catching the Golden spirit, while hundreds of past members—at home and across the globe—are eagerly preparing to return and relive the memories of a movement that shaped generations.
This is not merely a Jubilee. It is a reunion of generations, a celebration of a legacy and a launch pad for the future.
The Present is Making Barkur Proud:
The present generation of ICYM Barkur has given the Jubilee year a flying start. Their energy, creativity and achievements at Deanery and Diocesan levels have been nothing short of phenomenal.
The youngsters' short film “Havn Patki”, the recognition earned by talented Director Jeston Dias of Bennekudru, and the prize-winning performances in various categories especially of Ceona Pinto and many others are shining examples of the creative potential of Barkur's youth.
For a Golden Jubilee, what better tribute could there be than seeing the next generation already making its mark?
Sports, Leadership and Youth Power:
The momentum continues with the Inter-Parish Volleyball and Throwball Tournament scheduled for Sunday, 27 September, at SVVN English Medium High School, Heradi-Barkur.
With attractive prizes and trophies and participation from neighbouring parishes, the tournament promises more than sporting excitement. It represents the very spirit of ICYM—leadership, teamwork, healthy competition and youth involvement.
It could well become another landmark in Barkur's continuing tradition of youth leadership.
And Then, They Come Home!
For former CYM members, the Golden Jubilee has a deeply emotional meaning.
From Mumbai and Bengaluru to the Gulf, Europe, the United States and beyond, former members are looking forward to returning to the place where friendships were forged, talents discovered and memories created.
The Golden Jubilee Celebration on 27 December 2026 and the Past Members' Get-Together on 1 January 2027 are expected to bring together a remarkable cross-section of the CYM family.
Different generations. Different destinations. One Barkur. One CYM family.
The Grand Finale Awaits!
And the celebrations will reach their spectacular climax with the much-awaited Grand Wilfy Nite on Sunday, 3 January 2027, at the St Peter's Church Open Ground, Barkur.
Already generating immense curiosity, the event promises to be a celebration to remember.
Adding historic significance will be the presence of Rt Rev Dr Henry D'Souza, Founder of CYM Barkur and Bishop of Bellary Diocese. Rt Rev Dr Leslie Clifford D'Souza, Bishop of Udupi Diocese, will preside over the historic gathering.
As the two influential and celebrated voices of our time will address the gathering, while the much-awaited “CYM 1976–2026” Golden Jubilee Souvenir will be released.
Those who contributed to the remarkable journey of CYM Barkur will also be remembered and honoured.
