October 13, 2024 - The second day of the pastoral visit to Barkur Parish by His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese, was marked by significant spiritual events and community engagement.
The day commenced with a solemn High Mass, during which 36 young parishioners received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Bishop Lobo delivered an inspiring homily, emphasizing the importance of prayer in one's spiritual journey. Following the Mass, the Bishop addressed the congregation, touching upon several crucial aspects of Catholic life. He stressed the significance of prayer in family life, elucidated the roles of both religious and laity in the Church, and discussed the ongoing Synod and the Jubilee Year.
Post-Mass, Bishop Lobo engaged in fruitful interactions with various parish groups, including the choir and altar servers. These meetings provided an opportunity for direct dialogue between the parish youth and their spiritual leader, fostering a sense of connection and belonging within the church community.
The pastoral visit extended into the evening with Bishop Lobo attending a ward meeting at the St. Sebastian Ward in Hosala at the residence Mrs Gretta and Mr.Staney Lewis, Â Accompanied by Parish Priest Fr. Ronald Miranda and key parish council members, the Bishop participated in this grassroots gathering led by ward gurkaar (leader) Ms. Vivette Lewis. In his address to the ward members, Bishop Lobo expressed his delight at the community's active participation and urged them to continue building a strong basic ecclesial community by being attentive to each other's needs.
The day concluded with a communal recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM, led by Bishop Lobo. This devotion, particularly poignant in the month of October which is dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary, saw enthusiastic participation from numerous parishioners.
