BARKUR, March 9, 2025-  Barkur came alive as members of Sthree Sanghatan, the local women's association, gathered to commemorate International Women's Day with a blend of spiritual devotion and humanitarian purpose.

The celebration  with a special liturgical Mass conducted entirely by the organization's members. The women took charge of the proceedings, including leading the choir, demonstrating their leadership within the community's religious framework. Reverend Ronald Miranda, the parish vicar, extended his heartfelt wishes to all women present, acknowledging the significance of International Women's Day and the essential role women play in society.

Following the Mass, attendees exchanged greetings in a display of solidarity and sisterhood before assembling for a commemorative group photograph to mark the occasion. The event was coordinated under the guidance of Sthree Sanghatan's leadership, with President Laveena Olivera and Secretary Irene Pais at the helm.

In a notable departure from conventional celebrations, the association made a conscious decision to forgo the traditional festivities and banquet that typically characterize such gatherings. Instead, they opted to redirect the allocated funds toward supporting women in need within their community.

"Today is about celebrating womanhood in its truest sense—through compassion and upliftment of our sisters who are struggling," said Irene Pais when asked about the decision. "We believe that the essence of International Women's Day lies not in momentary festivities but in creating lasting impact in women's lives."
