Barkur, October 9, 2025 – Priya Bakery, a beloved institution in Barkur for half a century, marked its 50th anniversary today with gratitude and announcements of an exciting new chapter.
The celebration was marked by a heartfelt remembrance of the bakery's humble beginnings and the community support that made its success possible.
A Journey Rooted in Faith and Community
Owner Sayyed Ali Barkur, who originally hails from Kerala, took a moment during the anniversary celebrations to remember the devout vicar Rev.Fr.Late Joseph DSouza of St. Peter's Church, whose encouragement proved pivotal in his entrepreneurial journey. The vicar's support enabled Ali to establish his first modest bakery setup within the church compound itself – a testament to the interfaith harmony and community spirit that has always characterized Barkur.
Through years of hard work and unwavering dedication, the business flourished. The bakery's growing popularity eventually necessitated a move to larger premises near the junction at Chanda's shop, where it continued to serve the community's bakery needs with quality and consistency.
New Generation, New Vision
Now, as Priya Bakery enters its golden jubilee year, Sayyed Ali's son, Shoukath Ali Barkur, has taken the helm of the family business. Under his leadership, the bakery is ushering into another significant milestone – a transition to a modern, state-of-the-art facility.
